Your Time Has Come (Album Vers
Audioslave Lyrics

Now one fell asleep in the street
And he never woke up
And now one died in pieces
Whose been with a mouthful of ghosts
And one threatening long ago I saw him
Melt in the bright of day
And one laid to rest in the field
On the stories and crawled, hey

I've been walking the sideways
I've stared straight into the sun
Still, I don't know why you're dying
Long before your time has come
Your time has come

Now one took some bullets to the chest and the field gone wrong
One got a little too depressed then he went and jumped the gun
One got shot right in the face and he somehow survived
But he doesn't know my name or who I am
And I'm not surprised, hey

I've been wandering sideways
I've stared straight into the sun
Still, I don't know why you're dying
Long before your time has come

Yeah I've been wandering sideways
I've stared straight into the sun
Still I don't know why you're dying
Long before your time has come
Your time has come, hey

I've seen fifty thousand names all engraved on a stone
Most of them, met 'em at a grave years before I was born
All of them left brothers and sisters and mothers behind
And most of their family and friends are alive
Every time

I've been wandering sideways
I've stared straight into the sun
And I don't know why you're dying
Long before your time has come

Yeah I've been wandering sideways
I've stared straight into the sun
And I don't know why you're dying

Long before your time has come
Your time has come

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Your Time Has Come" by Audioslave describe the various ways in which people die before their time. The first verse contains four different examples of premature death, including someone who fell asleep in the street and never woke up, someone who died in pieces with a mouthful of ghosts, someone who melted in the bright daylight, and someone who was laid to rest in a field on the stories and crawled. Each of these images presents a different kind of tragedy, and yet they are all tied together by the fact that each person died before they should have.

The second verse continues with more examples of untimely death, including someone who took bullets to the chest, someone who got too depressed and committed suicide, and someone who was shot in the face and somehow survived but doesn't know the singer's name. The bridge of the song shifts to the singer's own perspective, as they reflect on the many names engraved on a stone and the families and friends left behind by those who died too soon. The chorus repeats the lines "I've been walking the sideways / I've stared straight into the sun / Still, I don't know why you're dying / Long before your time has come" to emphasize the sense of confusion and sorrow that surrounds these deaths.

Overall, "Your Time Has Come" is a powerful reflection on the fragility of life and the many ways in which it can be cut short. The lyrics are full of vivid images that create a sense of urgency and tragedy, and the chorus provides a haunting refrain that captures the sense of loss and confusion that comes with losing someone too soon.

Chris Cornell's time is gone, but his voice and music are timeless. Today was so shocking. Everyone said Chris seemed upbeat in his recent
concerts and in his social media posts. His past struggles are well
documented, but I thought he had put his personal demons behind him. I
don't want anyone to continue to suffer their whole lives just because
it makes others feel bad if they are gone, but I wonder if Chris ever
tried any psychiatric therapy. It's cliched but I feel he "robbed us of
his talent." With all the anger, confusion, and pain this country
seems to be in, we need a voice like his to express these feelings. RIP
Chris.

I'm an old man (66) and I just spent 2 1/2 hours listening to Chris Cornell. What a loss. He has one of the most amazing voices I have ever heard. Just close your eyes, and let your brain take over. RIP Chris
