Audiovent was originally formed by Jason Boyd, Paul Fried, and Benjamin Einziger under the name Vent. Boyd and Fried met while attending A.E. Wright Middle School in Calabasas. After Fried introduced Boyd to his stepbrother Einziger, the three decided to form a band. When Fried was in tenth grade Jamin Wilcox joined Vent. Throughout their high school years, Vent played gigs around Calabasas and eventually played as far as Hollywood. Ryland Steen replaced Wilcox on the drums in 2003.
In 2001, the band renamed themselves Audiovent, signed with the major label Atlantic Records. Audiovent then began recording their first major label album, Dirty Sexy Knights in Paris, which was released in 2002.
Paul and Ben are step-brother and brother of Michael Einziger and Jason Boyd is the brother of Brandon Boyd, both of Incubus.
Numb

just how she feels inside.
You grip her throat.
She begins to cry.
When you tear she will bleed more.
You don't care that she's screaming.
She was infected.
She was infected.
When will her pain go numb?
When will her pain go numb.
And It hurts to know.
It hurts to know inside.
It won't go.
The pain will never die.
When she sleeps
she will feel you.
As she sleeps
she will see you.
She was infected.
When will her pain go numb?
She was infected.
When will her pain go numb?
You don't seem to listen to screams.
So why don't you listen to me?
No is all no will ever mean.
She was infected.
When will her pain go numb?
She was infected.
When will her pain go numb?
She was infected.
When will her pain go numb?
She was infected.
When will her pain go numb?
The lyrics of Audiovent's song "Numb" describe the pain and suffering experienced by a woman who seems to be in an abusive relationship. The singer is pleading with the abuser to understand how the woman feels and to stop hurting her. The chorus repeats the phrase "She was infected, when will her pain go numb?" which suggests that she has been emotionally damaged to the point where she can no longer feel anything.
The first two lines of the song are particularly poignant, as they describe the physical violence that the woman is experiencing. The line "you grip her throat" is especially chilling, as it suggests that the abuser is choking her. The singer is clearly appalled by this behavior, and is trying to find a way to help the woman escape from the situation.
The refrain "When will her pain go numb?" is repeated throughout the song, and it has a powerful impact. It suggests that the woman has been hurt so much that she has become emotionally desensitized, and is no longer capable of feeling anything. This is a tragic situation, and the singer is trying to find a way to help her overcome it.
