Divide
Audioweb Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I've got a ........................ inside
The deeper we hide
The more we lose control of our life
One ........ for you
Nineteen for me
You know it's not right
The wall between us
Chorus:
Divide is so wide (x3)
The longer we stand
The longer we all stand alone
The higher we climb
The more we all deny
Do you believe in what you see
We know it's not right
The welfare state means nothing at all
It's over, it's over, over
United we stand
Divided we fall
........... well to be there
.......................
Chorus
So what's your solution?
Revolution
The only solution
Revolution
It's time for .........
I really wanna know
What you're gonna do (x2)
It's time for .........
The lyrics of Audioweb's "Divide" address the issue of division in society. The song alludes to both the physical and emotional divide present in society, ultimately leading to loss of control over life. The divide is so wide that it evokes a feeling of emptiness in the singer. The lyrics use a numeric simile to emphasize the disparity between different groups within society. Nineteen for me and one for you denotes a vast difference in the distribution of resources. The wall between "us" and the system creates an unbridgeable distance that cannot be overcome.
The chorus emphasizes the magnitude of the divide in society, which only becomes wider with time. As individuals climb higher up the social ladder, they deny the problems of others and lose sight of the reality around them. The lyrics question the reader's perspective: do you believe in what you see, even when the welfare state is falling apart? The use of rhetorical questions in the lyrics aims to provoke thought and encourage the listener to ponder over the solution to this societal disruption. The latter half of the song suggests revolution as the only solution to overcome the divide.
