He was born in Montella, in the Province of Avellino, Italy. His singing career began in 1951, after he came first place in a singing competition. He signed a recording contract with Durium Records to record songs in Italian and Napulitano. The following year, with the song "Rose, poveri rrose!", he came first in the Castellammare di Stabia music festival, and decided to become a professional singer.
His first big hit was with "Scapricciatiello", by Pacifico Vento and Ferdinando Albano, in 1954.[2] In 1957 his song "Lazzarella" (written by Domenico Modugno and Riccardo Pazzaglia) was a success at the Naples song festival (Festival d'a Canzone Napulitana) and the eponymous film which followed (directed by Carlo Ludovico Bragaglia), in which he performed, was also a great success with the public. In the following years, he took part in the San Remo song festival six times and toured worldwide, which contributed to his success abroad in the United States, South America and Japan. He was the singer of the winning song at the Naples song festival in 1961, 1965 and 1969.
His best-known songs are probably "Guaglione", recorded in 1956, and "A pizza" (by Alberto Testa and Bruno Martelli), from the Naples song festival of 1966.
He opened a restaurant in Naples, A canzuncella, where he entertained the patrons.[5] He studied the Neapolitan language (Napulitano) and published a grammar (Grammatica della lingua napoletana) and a book on Neapolitan legends (Fiabe e leggende napoletane). He died after a stroke at Cardarelli Hospital, Naples.

'mmiez'a 'sta via,
nun mange cchiù nun duorme cchiù
che pecundrìa!
Guè piccerì che vène a dì
'sta gelusia?
Tu vuò suffrì,
tu vuò murì,
Curre 'mbraccio addu mammà,
nun fà 'o scemo piccerì...
dille tutt''a verità
ca mammà te pò capì...
E passe e spasse sott'a stu barcone,
ma tu sì guaglione...
Tu nun canusce 'e ffemmene,
sì ancora accussì giovane!
Tu si guaglione!...
Che t'hê miso 'ncapa?
và a ghiucà 'o pallone...
Che vònno dì sti llacreme?...
Vattè, nun mme fà ridere!
Curre 'mbraccio addu mammà,
nun fà 'o scemo piccerì...
Dille tutta 'a verità
ca mammà te pò capì...!
Nun 'e ppittà, nun 'alliscià chill'uocchie belle...
Nun 'a penzà, và a pazzià
cu 'e guagliuncièlle...
Nun t'avvelì,
c'è tiempo oje ni,
pe' te 'nguajà!
Chi desidere 'e vasà,
scordatèlla, piccerì,
ca si 'o ddiceno a papà,
chisà comme va a fernì...
E passe e spasse sott'a stu barcone,
Staje sempe ccà, 'mpuntato ccà,
'mmiez'a 'sta via...
Nun mange cchiù, nun duorme cchiù...
chi t''o ffà fà!...
The lyrics to Aurelio Fierro's song "Guaglione" describe a young man who is consumed by jealousy and unable to eat or sleep, as he fixates on his romantic infatuation with a woman. The chorus repeats the word "Guaglione," which is Neapolitan dialect for "boy" or "young man," emphasizing the singer's youth and passion. The verses encourage the young man to confide in his mother, who will understand his troubles, and to stop fixating on the women around him, instead focusing on enjoying his youth and freedom. The final verse warns the singer to forget about his desires for a woman, as it may cause trouble with his father.
The song captures the youthful exuberance of Neapolitan culture, with its emphasis on family, romance, and a freewheeling approach to life. The lyrics invoke the streets and alleys of Naples, as the young man wanders aimlessly and muses on his troubles. The chorus is infectious and joyful, and the melody is equally lively and spirited, reflecting the joie de vivre of Neapolitan life.
