Half the World Away
Aurora Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I would like to leave this city
This old town don't smell too pretty
And I can feel the warning signs running around my mind

And when I leave this island
I book myself into a soul asylum
I can feel the warning signs running around my mind

So here I go
I'm still scratching around in the same old hole
My body feels young but my mind is very old
So what do you say?
You can't give me the dreams that are mine anyway
You're half the world away
You're half the world away

And when I leave this planet
You know I'd stay but I just can't stand it
And I can feel the warning signs running around my mind

And if I can leave this spirit
I'll find me a hole and I'll live in it
And I can feel the warning signs running around my mind

So here I go
I'm still scratching around in the same old hole
My body feels young but my mind is very old
So what do you say?
You can't give me the dreams that are mine anyway
You're half the world away
You're half the world away

You're half the world away
I've been lost, I've been found
But I don't feel down
You're half the world away
I've been lost, I've been found
But I don't feel down
I don't feel down

Overall Meaning

Aurora's song "Half the World Away" is a heartfelt and introspective ballad about feeling trapped in one's surroundings and searching for a sense of freedom and escape. The opening lines immediately set the tone, with the singer expressing a desire to leave the city and the warning signs that have been troubling their mind. There is a sense of restlessness and a need to break free from the constraints of their current circumstances. They seem to be searching for a "soul asylum" - a place of refuge where they can find peace and solace.

As the song progresses, the singer acknowledges their own limitations and the feeling that their mind is much older than their body. They address the listener directly, asserting that the dreams they seek are uniquely their own and cannot be given to them by anyone else. It is clear that the singer is feeling isolated and disconnected from the world around them, and the repetition of the phrase "You're half the world away" emphasizes this feeling of distance and separation.

The idea of leaving this planet altogether is introduced in the second half of the song, suggesting the depths of the singer's desire for escape. The final lines, "I've been lost, I've been found / But I don't feel down", suggest a sense of hope and resilience, even in the face of adversity.

Overall, the lyrics of "Half the World Away" paint a poignant picture of a person struggling to find their place in the world, seeking a sense of freedom and meaning in an often overwhelming and demanding environment.

Its crazy how some people don't know this is an oasis cover

@jackpurchon6695

It's because it's so different for a cover that it seems like a completely different song. I love both versions

@TheFakeyCakeMaker

@@jackpurchon6695 Not really, it's just a woman singing it slightly slower, there's nothing particularly wow about this, if it were it's own song then yeah it would be good but as it's not I find it a bit "meh!" Most people don't know it's a cover because it wasn't an Oasis A side and was mainly known from the British sitcom the Royale Family.
