Five, four, three, two, one
Five, four, three, two, one

He holds the gun against my head
I close my eyes and bang I am dead
I know he knows that he's killing me for mercy

And here I go
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh
And here I go
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh

He holds my body in his arms
He didn't mean to do no harm
And he holds me tight

He did it all to spare me from
The awful things in life that comes
And he cries and cries
I know he knows that he's killing me for mercy

And here I go
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh
And here I go
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh-oh

He holds my body in his arms
He didn't mean to do no harm
And he cries and cries

He did it all to spare me from
The awful things in life that comes
And he cries and cries

Five, four, three, two, one
Five, four, three, two, one

Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah

The countdown at the beginning of the song creates a sense of urgency and impending doom. The lyrics themselves detail the act of killing and the aftermath. The singer, who is being killed, understands that the killer is doing so out of mercy and to spare them from the awful things in life. The repetition of the phrase "and here I go" throughout the song creates a sense of finality and resignation as the singer accepts their fate.

I’ve been meaning to leave a comment on this song for a long time now. Anyone who may be triggered by abuse should not read on

This song has helped me so much to process a traumatic event from my childhood. When I was little my mother tried to drown me in a bathtub. The subject of this song may not be exactly the same, and I may have “lived” through my moms attempted murder, but the way she describes the nuance of this kind of a scenario.... it helped me find deeper understanding and peace. Sometimes a person can be so disturbed and broken and ill that they convince themselves that committing an atrocity against another human is actually a good thing, that it’s good for them. This is a nuance and subtlety that I feel most people don’t understand about abuse, but I feel aurora captured perfectly in this song. This is a part of why working through trauma can be so confusing and tricky, as traumatic as an event can be it’s all the nuances and subtlety and normalizing that you go through that can make it hard to let go of.

Thank you aurora for making this song. It may not have been your intention to help anyone with this song, you may have just wanted to make something dark and interesting, but you should know that in that process you helped one of your fans immensely. I will be forever grateful for this piece of art ♥️

This song feels like one of those books that you read and then you think about it for days because it’s just that haunting

Tbh I was thinking the same, I was thinking about the book "the ballad of songbirds and snakes" by Suzanne Collins (prequel to the hunger games) and the character Lucy gray and aurora give the same vibes for me

I read the book "A Little Life" and all the things I've read there is really tragic and sad. I couldn't imagine myself living the life of the main character in that book. Story of trying to forget the past and losing someone you love the most.

I’m glad Aurora is finally getting the recognition she deserves. I’ve loved her music since high school when a friend showed me. It used to be one of the only things I could listen to to help with anxiety.

I'm in secondary school at the moment and I've been listening to Aurora's music since I was in year seven. I'm now about to move into year nine. I can relate when you say that it was one of the only things that helped with your anxiety.

shannon hemmings

I guess that makes us relatable 😁. If that's the right term

lanna L

It helps my anxiety too
