The Words
Austin Weber Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Ain't it hard to find them
Even when you're right behind them
Ain't it hard to find them
The words

Isn't it an issue
A modern lover's miscue
Ain't it hard to find them
The words

If I'd've though of what to say
In just a little different way
Maybe you'd have thought to stay
But it's just another stone I left unturned
To say the words

Walking back directions
Mocking self-expressions
Trying to defy them
The words

Deeper into my head
The final ones that you said
Trying to define them
It hurts

And every time they cross my mind
I feel as though I've lost my mind
In other lands I've left behind

I'm breaking past the point of no return
To say the words

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Austin Weber’s song, The Words, express the difficulty of communicating and expressing oneself in a relationship. The song acknowledges that even when someone is in close physical proximity, it can still be challenging to connect with them emotionally. The chorus highlights this struggle, with Weber singing “Ain't it hard to find them / Even when you're right behind them / Ain't it hard to find them / The words.” This repetition emphasizes the frustration of not being able to verbalize one’s feelings to the person they care about.

The lyrics also explore the regret that comes with not being able to find the words at the right moment. Weber sings about the “stone” left unturned and the missed opportunity to communicate effectively. He reflects on how a small change in words or expression could have made a big difference in the outcome of the relationship. However, despite this regret, he still struggles to find the right words when reflecting on the past.

Towards the end of the song, Weber discusses the pain that comes with recalling the final words of a failed relationship. He tries to “define them” and understand their significance but it only brings him more hurt. The song ends on a melancholic note, with the singer realizing that he may never be able to express the depth of his emotions. The song’s honest reflection on the struggle to communicate one’s feelings and the regret that comes with missed opportunities makes it a relatable and poignant piece.

@chloethesemoments

In Germany we say "in special moments you can hear a neadle fall". I hope I find the right words in English.

I did not expect such a sad, peaceful, deep and so very beautiful song as we are used to different songs from you, which I love too.

This was breathtaking, a "holy atmosphere", it went right deep into my soul, I felt every word spoken and unspoken in my heart and when the song was over, do you know these moments, after something hit you really deep, there was just silence, just like silence in a church when noone is in it.

That was utterly beautiful and touching and I am still crying because it touched me so hard in a sad and at the same time soothing way. I am still unable to speak.

I can only whisper that I will put this very special song on my playlist right after my words here to you and to all the others here 💙 thank you for this beautiful song 💙

I vividly remember listening to this on my porch in the rain with my dog leaning against my legs. My head races a lot, so focusing on just this song and the lyrics, it was so comforting. I know its small, but thank you for this memory. It means a lot to me.

Just curious, is this not a new original song or something? You say that as if you've heard it long ago. I'm new to Austin Weber so just wondering if you can help me out with this!
