Austin has scored over twenty five feature films, most notably the 2009 Sundance hit GRACE, as well as the 2008 Sundance Audience Award winner CAPTAIN ABU RAED. The latter was listed by the LA Times as a contender for the 2009 Academy Awards for 'Best Original Score' and also won Austin the Hollywood Music Award for "Best New Composer." The combined success of those films, along with several others, prompted The Hollywood Reporter to list Austin as one of 15 composers "Primed to take their place on the A-list," as well as a nomination by the International Film Music Critics Association for "Breakout Composer of the Year."
In addition to feature films, Austin has a tremendous passion for the world of game scoring. His first major game score for thatgamecompany's flOw in 2006 earned Austin a British Academy Award nomination and triple nominations at the Game Audio Network Guild awards ("Innovative use of Audio," "Best Interactive Score" and winning for "Rookie of the Year."). Perhaps most notably, his score for thatgamecompany's much lauded 'Journey' (2012) debuted as #1 in iTunes' game soundtrack charts (Grammy 2012 nominated for Best Score Soundtrack For Visual Media).
Austin also maintains a busy schedule writing concert music and composing/producing albums. In addition to more traditional chamber and orchestral music, in 2010 he released a meditation album entitled "Sounds of Darkness" using never-before recorded sacred Aztec chants. 2010 also saw the launch of Allogamy, an ambitious blog in collaboration with photographer Andrew Berglund which posts a new photo with a new piece of music for every single day in the year.
Beyond composing, Austin is also a strong advocate for music in the schools, particularly in early education, and as such is a very active memeber on the Board of Directors for Education Through Music - Los Angeles (alongside composers John Debney, Christopher Young, Michael Giacchino, James Dooley and many other music, business and education professionals).

I just found out that the main instrument here is called a "serpent" which is kind of a primal brass instrument, sort of an ancestor to the tuba, so to sepak. Just some interesting trivia, for those interested. It's amazing how even the instruments themselves are symbolic and meaningful.

This was probably the most beautiful game I've ever played. I got it yesterday and beaten it 3 times. Though its short its absolutely brilliant with every aspect. It brings tears to my eyes every time I play it because its so beautiful. 10 stars. Unbelievable.

3:43 has always been such a bitter sweet sound to me. It played for me when i got the the symbol on the cloth jelly. At times I want to play alone so i can just fool around and as a white robe I once got to this part and just jumped around glowing on the jelly fish, hoping for a friend, this played on a loop mean while. I never did get a companion to stop by, so that little snipped of bittersweet music stuck with me.

That last note always manages to strike fear into my heart, like it's telling me, "Okay the beauty of the underwater room is gone, now look around you at this dark, gloomy tunnel that you just fell into. Guess what's waiting inside?"

It didn't get five Grammies. But it did get five BAFTAs. That more than makes up for it.

A hearten beat with a calling name,
To reap the soul and convince and claim.
Never before, the task was bleak,
That even the best would fall, by sudden weak.
Conscious thought, that stirred in head,
To lustful greed and selfish bled.
Moving on and on that never to doubt,
For in the will of coursed route.
