Australian Crawl Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

LET ME TELL YOU BOUT TWO YOUNG LOVERS THAT LIVE DOWN THE COAST
SHE WAS SUCH A PRETTY THING, MAN WHAT A HOST
EVENING TIME SHE SETS THE TABLE FOR FOUR

SOME FRIENDS ARE COMIN' ROUND TONIGHT
HE'S OUT ON THE TOWN, HE'S TRYING TO SCORE
WOKE UP EARLY THIS MORNIN' SOMETHING'S ON HIS MIND
CURSIN' THE NIGHT BEFORE, BREAKFAST AT NINE
SHE FELT HIM RESTLESS OH ALL THE NIGHT
SHE SENSES SOMETHING'S WRONG WITH HIM
SHE DON'T WANT TO PRY, SHE JUST WANTS TO KNOW WHY

CHORUS

OH, OH, OH, OH - OH NO NOT YOU AGAIN
DON'T OWN NO SWIMMIN' POOL NOT EVEN A COLOUR TV
HE WORKS AWFUL HARD SOME DAYS AND SHE LETS HIM BE
NO. CAUSE I AIN'T LOOKING GOOD FOR THEM, NO LOVE NO MORE
SOME FRIENDS ARE COMIN' ROUND TONIGHT
HE'S OUT ON THE TOWN, KNOCKIN' ON THE WRONG DOORS

CHORUS

REPEAT

REPEAT VERSE 1

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Australian Crawl's song Oh No Not You Again tell a story of two young lovers who live down the coast. The girl is described as pretty and a good host, as she sets the table for four in preparation for the arrival of some friends. The boy, on the other hand, is out on the town trying to score. The next morning, he wakes up feeling restless and agitated. He curses the night before and has breakfast at nine. His girlfriend senses that something is wrong with him, but she doesn't want to pry too hard. She simply wants to know why he's acting the way he is.

The chorus of the song expresses the boy's frustration with the situation - "Oh no not you again" - he seems to be unhappy with his life and feels trapped in his relationship with the girl. He doesn't even own a swimming pool or a color TV and his friends are coming around tonight, while he is out knocking on the wrong doors. The repetition of the first verse at the end of the song serves to emphasize this sense of disillusionment and hopelessness.

Overall, the lyrics of Oh No Not You Again capture the angst and frustration of a young man who is dissatisfied with his life, but doesn't quite know how to change it. The song paints a vivid picture of a relationship and a lifestyle that are no longer fulfilling, without necessarily offering any clear solutions or answers.

Lame Bot

I'm 48 and moved from the US back in 2000. I've been obsessed with this song for years. Makes me wish I could have grown up in Australia in the 80's. The rock scene seems so much more musical and personal.
I don't mind the over the top Motley Crew / Poison stuff. But it feels like huge stadiums vs smokey pubs.

Aussie Talking

Aussie music was awesome in the 70's, 80;s and early 90's. Try Split Enz (NZ band later as Crowded House), Cold Chisel, Jimmy Barnes, Ian Moss, The Black Sorrows, Divinyls, Kate Ceberano, Hoodoo Gurus, Hunters and Collectors, John Farnham, Mondo Rock, Skyhooks, Dragon (NZ), Mi Sex (NZ), The Angels, Rose Tattoo, Noiseworks, the list goes on. I'm sure you will find plenty to like. Sadly, the music scene here now is nothing :(

James Hughes

Enjoy mate. Try other classic Aus bands 'Icehouse' and 'Powderfinger'.
