Much of Autechre's music has a strong focus on complex rhythm and driving percussion, and more recently, on meticulous sequencing. Later work has been notably experimental and abstract, in contrast to the more club-friendly and conventional early 1990s releases.

Booth and Brown formed the group in 1987 while they were both living in Rochdale, United Kingdom. They began by making and trading electro and hip-hop mixtapes, but gradually collected some cheap equipment (most notably a Casio SK-1 Sampler) and moved on to their own compositions.

I remember waiting in line at the record store for this release the day it came out. Autechre ... Richard d james...mike paradinas...global good and many others shaped my musical palette and always bring incredible memories. This lp5 was a masterpiece

Not much person who like and understand this track. Its one of the deepest sounds in my life. When i hear it the first time (arround 2000-2001?) i never believed before that i found so much information in music..my english sucks sorry :p

Confield's opening sounds is what got me curious about Autechre. As a whole that album is like dancing in a place where the floor is constantly changing shape: stretching and contracting, now they're stairs... - sounds awesome! - until you go there and just get dizzy, or trip and fall on your face.
This is much "easier" while still reassuringly uncompromising.

In my head I split Autechre’s music into two eras: pre-Confield (which is pretty enjoyable) and everything from Confield, onwards (which is the greatest music I’ve heard in my life). In reality though, it’s Acroyear2 that was the true turning point in their music. Beautiful, precise and extremely complex percussion being the primary vehicle, melodies becoming far more subtle and constant evolution in a single track. “LP5” isn’t a bad record by any standard, but this track stands out as being too good and too advanced to sit with the rest of that album

And yet it could be argued that the 90s were their most fertile and diverse period, but with Confield (possibly Ganz Graf) onwards they settled into a predictible sound and hardly changed at all until Oversteps where they finally became ground-breaking and melodic again. Their 00s period sounds like a self parody, then Exai cemented it. Acroyear 2 is pretty much an object lesson in glitch IDM with a great, memorable melody above ground-breaking rhythm and texture design. But I hear nothing that approaches this brilliance on their 00s or post Oversteps material.

I wish I could find friends to listen to stuff like this along to, or just discuss this kind of music, or really MAKE it. I love trying to mess around making stuff similar to IDM, and trying to find my own niche and style to have something to put forward... cheers! And the channel name is great too haha
