Much of Autechre's music has a strong focus on complex rhythm and driving percussion, and more recently, on meticulous sequencing. Later work has been notably experimental and abstract, in contrast to the more club-friendly and conventional early 1990s releases.
Booth and Brown formed the group in 1987 while they were both living in Rochdale, United Kingdom. They began by making and trading electro and hip-hop mixtapes, but gradually collected some cheap equipment (most notably a Casio SK-1 Sampler) and moved on to their own compositions.

This tune is what the 'Peak AE' sound of 97-99 is all about. It's melodic, tough as hell, and simultaneously intelligent and accessible. I couldn't even make it through NTS sessions but I'll still listen to Envane or EP7.1 at least once a month. Maybe a dozen electronic artists have ever hit this kind of stride.

I just went from not liking this track to loving it. The melody that is fully introduced at 4:08 and goes until the outro reminds me of Ochre for some reason. I guess it's got a more classically-trained approach to melody than Ae usually does.
