In 2004, under the current name Autopilot Off, they released their debut album, Make a Sound, which includes the single "What I Want", co-written by Rancid's Tim Armstrong.
"Clockwork" was featured on the soundtrack of the games SSX3 and NHL 2004. "Chromatic Fades" was used in NASCAR Thunder 2004. "Make a Sound", was included in Burnout 3. All of these games were developed by Electronic Arts.
On August 26, 2005, the band decided to take an indefinite hiatus and released the following statement on their official website:
"So, it's been quite a while since we have posted any news. We've been off the road for well over 6 months now. We played a couple of shows over the holidays in NY. But that is about all that has gone on. Rumors have started to fly around about what we are up to. We think its about time that we filled you all in.....
We've decided to take an indefinite break from Autopilot Off. It has been nearly 10 years since the band started, and it has been full speed ahead for the majority of that time. We have all decided to take some time for our lives outside of the band. We are all still the best of friends. In addition to this we decided a few months back to leave our home of 4 years at Island Records. We apologize for leaving you all hanging for so long. Thank you so much for all the support and friendships that you all have given to us over the years. We could never have done it without you."
In 2011, the band reunited and began recording again.

So few and far between
Like lightning when it touches to the ground
Answer me the question
I'm ready to believe
I hold my breath before I let it out
The face we show
The hands we hold and leave behind
For all we lose
And all we find
Here while we live and while we die
The wait for redemption
It gets heavy on the mind
And I burn my eyes out staring at the sun
At this intersection
We are looking for the signs
And up ahead these roads they bend to one
The ties we bind
The ones we break
The solid ground beneath us shakes
What it tears down and what it makes
And what we give is all we'll take
To ride along the horizon
When these days are gone
It's what we become
As we ride along the horizon
When these days are gone
It's what we become
The face we show
The one we hide
The hands we hold and leave behind
For all we lose
And all we find
Here while we live and while we die
The ties we bind
The ones we break
The solid ground beneath us shakes
What it tears down and what it makes
And what we give is all we'll take
Divine intervention
Hanging in the air we breathe
And I'll fill my lungs with all that they can hold
As for all the questions
We've got everything we need
To guide us now whichever way we go
The song "Divine Intervention" by Autopilot Off talks about the search for answers and redemption in life. The singer compares divine intervention to lightning that only strikes the ground every so often. He is ready to believe and asks for answers to his questions. As he waits for redemption, it weighs heavy on his mind, and he ends up burning his eyes out staring at the sun. But despite the struggles, the singer believes that they are looking for signs, and these roads will eventually bend to one.
The chorus talks about the different sides of the self that we show or hide. The relationships we have with people we hold and leave behind. The singer talks about all that we lose and find as we live and die. The ties we bind and break, with solid ground beneath us always shaking, tear down and make. Lastly, what we give is all we'll take. The song concludes with the idea of divine intervention hanging in the air we breathe, filling our lungs with all we need to guide us in our journey.
In summary, "Divine Intervention" illustrates how we search for answers to our questions in life, even though we don't receive them frequently. The singer examines issues about identity, relationships, and human experiences. Through the ups and downs of the journey, he acknowledges that divine intervention is always present and helps us understand the way we live our lives.
