In 2004, under the current name Autopilot Off, they released their debut album, Make a Sound, which includes the single "What I Want", co-written by Rancid's Tim Armstrong.
"Clockwork" was featured on the soundtrack of the games SSX3 and NHL 2004. "Chromatic Fades" was used in NASCAR Thunder 2004. "Make a Sound", was included in Burnout 3. All of these games were developed by Electronic Arts.
On August 26, 2005, the band decided to take an indefinite hiatus and released the following statement on their official website:
"So, it's been quite a while since we have posted any news. We've been off the road for well over 6 months now. We played a couple of shows over the holidays in NY. But that is about all that has gone on. Rumors have started to fly around about what we are up to. We think its about time that we filled you all in.....
We've decided to take an indefinite break from Autopilot Off. It has been nearly 10 years since the band started, and it has been full speed ahead for the majority of that time. We have all decided to take some time for our lives outside of the band. We are all still the best of friends. In addition to this we decided a few months back to leave our home of 4 years at Island Records. We apologize for leaving you all hanging for so long. Thank you so much for all the support and friendships that you all have given to us over the years. We could never have done it without you."
In 2011, the band reunited and began recording again.
Nothing Frequency
Autopilot Off Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
A constant interference that is killing me
I'm losing the connection here
And all the frequencies are down
And this silence seems so loud
That's why
This system shorted out
This system shorted our
memory fails during the crashing down.
I'm screaming at the satellites
I'm watching all the screens go black in front of me.
I'm sending out a prayer tonight
Because all the frequencies are down
and this silence seems so loud.
And as it's starting to fade out
And as we're heading underground
There is a pessimistic side of me that knows that this
might never turn itself around.
The lyrics to Autopilot Off's Nothing Frequency speak to the frustration and despair that comes with feeling disconnected and unheard. As the singer tries to reach out and connect with someone or something, they are met with nothing but silence and static. The idea of "frequencies" being down speaks to a broader inability to communicate effectively or connect with others, and the line "this silence seems so loud" emphasizes the power and weight of that disconnect.
The chorus further explores this theme of system failure, with the singer recognizing that something has shorted out and that they are losing control. They are screaming at the satellites and watching screens go black, but there's nothing they can do to fix the problem. This feeling of being helpless and powerless is further emphasized in the line "memory fails during the crashing down," suggesting that even if they knew what to do, they wouldn't be able to do it.
The song ends on a pessimistic note, with the singer acknowledging that things may never get better. The line "there is a pessimistic side of me that knows that this might never turn itself around" speaks to the idea of hopelessness and the difficulty of staying positive when faced with constant failure and disappointment.
Overall, Nothing Frequency is a powerful meditation on the difficulties of connection and communication in our modern world. The use of technology and the metaphor of "frequencies" creates a sense of distance and separation, while the repeated references to silence and static suggest a deep underlying disconnect that can be hard to overcome.

Far too few people knew about this song when it came out back in 2002. Today it is all but forgotten. One of the greatest pop-punk songs ever written deserved to be far more recognized than it ever was.

I first discovered the band through SSX3 back in the days. After searching them up on spotify now and then to only wish they would make an account, they finally did! Been listening to them ever since. Easily one of my favourite bands out there! Very underated imo
