Autre Ne Veut Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

(Intro)
And I said baby
And I said baby
And I said baby
And I said baby
And I said baby, I’m all alone
I need you now
Come stay with me so that we can meet somehow
Said baby, your hold me down is my design
Come stay with me so we can be much higher

(Verse)
I don’t wanna be there tonight
You make me whole, you make me go
Make me harder than you
Wanna be the one that made me up
You made me love
Don’t make me help and make me odder
And you don’t wanna be like I’m the pain that
You never wanted be it
Fine, take that

(Bridge)
You wait for love, telling me to go, go , go
Don’t ever leave me
You’re feeling like you don’t mind
Thinking that you want to go
Don’t ever leave me
You’re feeling like you don’t mind
Thinking that you want to go
Don’t ever leave me alone
And this is how you find
I’ll make it and you’ll know, know, know
Don’t ever leave me
Never leave me out
Never leave me
Don’t try to make me

(Chorus x6)
I just called you up to get that play by play by play by play
Don’t ever leave me alone
I just called you up to get that play by play

(Outro)
Don’t ever, don’t ever, don’t ever leave me alone
Don’t ever leave me, don’t ever
Don’t ever leave me

That play by play, play by play
Don’t ever leave me alone

Overall Meaning

The Autre Ne Veut song "Play by Play" touches on themes of loneliness, intimacy, and the need for human connection. Throughout the song, the singer pleads for their lover to stay with them, singing "And I said baby, I’m all alone, I need you now, come stay with me so that we can meet somehow."

The song's use of repetition, including the repeated use of the phrase "play by play," emphasizes the importance of communication and being present with one another in a relationship. The chorus, which repeats the phrase "I just called you up to get that play by play," suggests a desire for constant communication and an intimate understanding of one another's thoughts and feelings.

The bridge offers a contrast to the chorus, with its repeated admonition of "Don’t ever leave me alone." This speaks to the singer's need for consistent support and reassurance in their relationship. Ultimately, the lyrics of "Play by Play" suggest that deep connections and emotional intimacy come from consistent effort and being there for one another through both good times and bad.

The word "baby" will never again be sung as amazingly as it was in this song

ANV is riding the "we're into you and your music" star. Thanks to Urban Outfitters for the video. Promise to hit up your store soon! Sorry for the Capitolist buy-in but if this is what it takes to make music like this soar, and accessible to more people, I'm all in.

Came back to this song after forgetting about it for years. Still bangs. Also this is the horniest a person has ever been

I am surprised that this video hasn't got more views than this. That song is seriously good.

Try more things. Like, try the new video "I'm The Man, That Will Find You" by Connan Mockasin, which is my fave song for this month.

I thought Counting was way better.  And I preferred the first album, which had more of an indie DIY charm, and just a feel-good warmth about it. Obviously the fun is much gone on Anxiety, which is part of its appeal (the bset songs are the dramatic ones: Counting, Gonna Die, etc.), but I'm afraid Autre Ne Veut is moving toward mainstream. I am "anxious" about his next step, so to speak.
