Deserted and Desolate
Autumn's Grey Solace Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Of trees and leaves
I sit by myself
A sad heart, an empty dream
The sound of a car
Come and save me.
O-o-oh, Pass me by
You're driving towards my ??
Are you for real?
Come and save me.
O-o-oh, Pass me by
??? ???? ??
Come and save me.
O-o-oh, Pass me by
O-o-oh, Pass me by
O-o-oh, Pass me by
The lyrics of Autumn's Grey Solace's song "Deserted and Desolate" describe a sense of isolation and sadness that the singer seems to be experiencing in the midst of a natural setting. The line "Alone in a crowd / Of trees and leaves" suggests a contrast between the beauty of the environment and the singer's emotional state. The repetition of the phrase "Come and save me" reinforces the sense of longing and desperation. The mention of a car in the second stanza creates a sense of hope that someone might come to rescue the singer, but the lyrics also suggest a feeling of disbelief ("Are you for real?") that suggests the singer may not really believe that help will arrive. The repetition of the phrase "Pass me by" underscores this ambivalence - on the one hand, the singer is hoping to be rescued, but on the other hand, there is a sense of resignation that perhaps rescue will not come.
