Eclipse
Autumn's Grey Solace Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Waters surround
High and dry
Wave away goodbyes
Every solar eclipse happens
Makes a stronger moon for nature
Never to come back
Every solar eclipse happens
Makes a stronger moon for nature
Never be stopped
Gravity's pulling
Feel it press on
In our horizons
Free from the sun
Every solar eclipse happens
Makes a stronger moon for nature
The lyrics to Autumn's Grey Solace's song "Eclipse" seem to convey a sense of acceptance and embracing of natural cycles and transitions. The opening lines "Staring in mirrors, waters surround, high and dry, wave away goodbyes" suggest a reflective moment, perhaps symbolizing the looking back on the past and letting go of things that no longer serve a purpose - just as the moon moves away from the sun during an eclipse. The repetition of "Every solar eclipse happens, makes a stronger moon for nature" reinforces this idea - that even though the eclipse may seem like an interruption or disruption in the natural order of things, it is actually a necessary step in strengthening the moon and maintaining balance in the cosmos.
The later lines "Swallow, devour, never to come back / Never be stopped, gravity's pulling / Feel it press on, in our horizons / Free from the sun" continue this theme, presenting an image of powerful natural forces at work. The idea that something can be "devoured" or consumed and never return again can be a bit unsettling, but the overall message seems to be one of embracing change and recognizing that every natural transition has a purpose and a place in the grand scheme of things.
Overall, the lyrics to "Eclipse" seem to be about finding peace and beauty in the midst of change and transition, and trusting in the natural order of things.

There's some really magical stuff hiding up the back of that album. Makes the escape from this world complete. Puts you elsewhere entirely.

Out of this world, and yet just what this world needs.
