Reflections of Falling Leaves
Autumn's Grey Solace Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Open up your eyes
Passing clouds of birds
Flying towards the sun
Can't you see my tree?
I'ts my own escape
Floating on a fantasy
On my tree feathers fall
Delicately brush away the leaves
Dead from a breeze
Wind so cold
Outside looking in
Shiver with my tree
Floating on a fantasy
Dance within my head
On my tree feathers fall
Floating on a fantasy
Dance within my head
On my tree feathers fall
The lyrics of Autumn's Grey Solace's "Reflections of Falling Leaves" tell a story of finding escape from the harshness of reality within oneself. The opening lines describe feathers falling like snow, and the listener is urged to open their eyes to witness the beauty of passing flocks of birds headed towards the sun. This sets the scene for a more metaphorical journey inward, as the singer asks if the listener can see her tree - a symbol of her safe haven, her inner escape from the outside world.
She then goes on to describe delicately brushing away the leaves that have fallen from her tree, in the same way that one might brush away unwanted thoughts or emotions. The imagery of a cold wind and the feeling of looking in from the outside add to the sense of longing for a place of refuge. But as the song progresses, the repeated lines "Floating on a fantasy, dance within my head, on my tree feathers fall" suggest that the singer has found that refuge within herself.
Overall, "Reflections of Falling Leaves" is a contemplative and introspective meditation on finding inner peace in a world that can often be harsh and unforgiving. It encourages the listener to look beyond the surface to find beauty and solace in unexpected places, and to cultivate a sense of inner strength and resilience that can withstand the storms of life.
