The Cell
Autumn's Grey Solace Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It's true
The guilt's in your hands
Follow me follow
I'll lead you away from you cell
If anyone know you
They wouldn't believe in all they've seen
To breathe
So watch me as I leave
And see how it could be
To taste the world again
Suddenly I realize
That I'm just as lonely
Ashamed of never being wanted
What if I knew what it's like for you?
Fathom me fathom
And maybe you'll see I'm your fear
The fever is so high and now I can see why
You're so mean
Feeling tomorrow will leave you in sorrow
Alone
For I will be weary of you feeling sorry
For your own self
Morning I'll see you fall
Down where you ought to have known
Blame the law you broke
Now you fall
The lyrics of Autumn's Grey Solace's song The Cell can be interpreted in different ways, but one possible interpretation is that it is about denial, guilt, fear, and loneliness. The first stanza suggests that the singer is addressing someone who is denying their wrongdoings but feels guilty about them. The second stanza seems to be the singer offering a way out or a way to face the truth, by leading this person away from their cell of denial and revealing the monsters within them that must not be allowed to continue breathing. The line "And see how it could be to taste the world again" implies that the person is trapped in their own mind and unable to fully engage with life.
The third stanza shifts the focus to the singer's own realization that they too are lonely and ashamed of never being wanted. The line "What if I knew what it's like for you?" shows empathy and a desire to understand the other person's perspective. The fourth stanza continues this theme by suggesting that if the other person could fathom the singer's own fears, they might see that they share a common humanity. The line "The fever is so high and now I can see why you're so mean" suggests that the other person's defensive behavior is a symptom of their fear and pain.
The fifth stanza seems to be a warning or a prediction that the other person will fall and face the consequences of their actions. The line "Blame the law you broke" implies that the person has committed a crime or transgression that led to their imprisonment in the cell of denial. The song ends abruptly with the line "Now you fall," which can be interpreted as a final judgment or a tragic outcome.
