Mad About the Boy
Ava Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Can't make up my mind, about the boy
Sometimes he brings me down, sometimes he brings me joy
I want him around, but he's never in town
Can't make up my mind, oh no

But I love him even though my friends say he's not right
I know it's true but can't deny he's on my mind
I love him I love him I love him I love him
I love him I love him I love him I love him
And there ain't no other that I'd put above him
I'm so mad about the boy

Can't make up my mind about this guy
Sometimes he makes me smile sometimes he makes me cry
Other guys have tried, but he's the one i like
I'm so mad about this guy

But i love him even though my friends say he's no right
I know its true but cant deny he's on my mind

I love him I love him I love him I love him
I love him I love him I love him I love him
And there ain't no other that I'd put above him
I'm so mad about the boy

Call it what you like but I ain't no love fool
You would understand if he was loving you
We've had our ups and downs, but i still want him around
He is the one, I know is true

I love him I love him I love him I love him
I love him I love him I love him I love him

And there ain't no other that I'd put above him
I'm so mad about the boy ...

Overall Meaning

In "Mad About The Boy," Ava ponders her feelings for a boy who she's not quite sure about. In the first verse, she sings about her conflict of emotions towards him. Sometimes he's a drag and other times a delight. She can't seem to make her mind up about him, even when he's not around. She then confesses that despite her friends' warnings and doubts, she can't help but think of him, making her feel confused and uneasy. In the chorus, she declares her love for him, acknowledging that there's no one else quite like him.

The second verse echoes the first, but Ava's voice is more assured, as she says she is unequivocally crazy for him, even when he makes her cry. No one else can compare to him or replace him in her heart. And although she recognizes that she is essentially alone in her feelings, she remains resolute, taking full responsibility for her affection. In the bridge, Ava indicates that she's no "love fool" and calls attention to her lover's charms, implying that if you were in her shoes, you'd understand why she feels the way she does. Even though they've had their share of ups and downs, she still wants to be with him because he's the one she truly loves.
