"Baby make me proud
You've got such a pretty face
But such a dirty mouth"
But how come when I tell you
What's on my mind like men do
I'm called crazy?
Crazy
This is not a love song
This is not a sing along
But ladies, are you with me?
I know that you're with me
Add a little sugar, they say
Be a little sweeter, they say
Gotta give and take, but I say
This time it's my way, ah, my way
Be a little proper, they say
Speak a little softer, they say
Gotta be a lady, but I say
This time it's my way, ah, my way
(My way, my way, my way)
This time it's my way, ah, my way
(My way, my way, my way)
This time it's my way, ah, my way
I'll do me
You do you
I don't need nobody's permission
I won't back down
Win or lose
Oh yeah, one and only limited edition (yeah)
This is not a love song
This is not a sing along
But ladies, are you with me?
I know that you're with me
Add a little sugar, they say
Be a little sweeter, they say
Gotta give and take, but I say
This time it's my way, ah, my way
Be a little proper, they say
Speak a little softer, they say
Gotta be a lady, but I say
This time it's my way, ah, my way
This time it's my way, ah, my way
This time it's my way, ah, my way
This time it's my way, ah, my way
This time it's my way, ah, my way
The song My Way by Ava Max is an empowering anthem for women. In the lyrics, Ava talks about how she's tired of being asked to be a little sweeter, be a little proper, and to speak a little softer. She's done with people telling her how to behave or talk, and she wants to do things her way. The chorus repeats the phrase, "This time it's my way," which is a declaration that she's not going to back down or be silenced anymore.
The first verse shows the frustration that Ava has been experiencing, where people judge her for speaking her mind. She mentions her mother telling her to make her proud but to watch her "dirty mouth." Ava wonders why men can speak their minds but when she does the same, she's called "crazy." This sentiment is relatable to many women who have been told to be quiet or tone down their personalities. Ava's solution is to do what makes her happy and to not worry about what others think about her.
The chorus repeats the message of being able to do things her way. Instead of adding a little sugar and being a little sweeter, she wants to stand her ground and be herself. The lyrics reflect the current cultural shift towards women's empowerment and promote the idea of being your own independent person.
