4. Avatar is an early name of the band Savatage before 1983. The band was formed by Jon and Criss Oliva in 1979 at Astro Skate in Tarpon Springs, Florida. When they first formed, they sometimes went under the name Metropolis. They recorded two songs, "Rock Me" and "Minus Love", for a compilation released by the radio station 95YNF and played a show in a K-Mart parking lot to support the release. They released a demo on cassette in February 1983, Living for the Night. In September 1983 they released an 7" EP City Beneath the Surface. Shortly after, "Avatar" was forced to change its name due to copyright issues. Combining the words "Savage" and "Avatar", the band decided on Savatage.
Another Avatar demo compilation surfaced in 1999, Beyond The Doors Of The Pit. Savatage released the Avatar demos on The Hammer Comes Down Demos.

For all of your trials
Keep me forever
Just give me a day in denial
Grant me a wish
Just a mistake
Grant me a fire to love
Before it's too late
Burn
Let me burn
Let me cleanse my soul
Cleanse my soul in napalm
Drown me in sand
For all coming eons
Drown me in sorrow
Just take me back home
Where I came from
Give me a chance
Let me explain
Give me the cure
To the sickness I am
I can't take the strain
Give me a name
Something to save
Give me a meaning
To live with my stains
It can't be too late
All men on deck
Take your stations
I am ready too roll
The countdown has started
I'm out on a mission
I'm going
I'm going home
The song "In Napalm" by Avatar is a commentary on the human desire for absolution, forgiveness and redemption. The lyrics capture the desperation of a person who has lived a life of regret, wishing for a chance to cleanse their soul before it's too late. The singer pleads for a chance to make up for past mistakes and errors, to be granted a wish that would allow them to burn away their sins in a purifying flame of napalm.
The repetition of certain phrases, such as "Keep me in mind for all of your trials" and "Give me a meaning to live with my stains," convey the sense of a person pleading for recognition, acceptance and opportunity to start anew. The use of strong imagery such as drowning in sand, being cleansed in napalm, and being out on a mission, suggests that the singer is ready to do whatever it takes to attain salvation.
In summary, the song is a powerful exploration of human frailty and the irrepressible human desire for redemption.
