Fading Light
Aviators Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Life's breath in the candlelight
Lost hearts in the dead of night
It's a long way down
To the place they found
Dark sun, hollowed by the fade
Our debt they left to be paid
Seen the blackness stare
Promising to spare
The chosen

Born of graves and left below
Painted ashes, painted snow
When the dark awakens
Fires of our last hope are getting low
Souls of gods and souls of men
Meet in cinders to ascend
Fate has chosen
And our fading light is at its end

I've a tale that time has lost
Sins of judgment born in frost
Then he took a name
For the one profaned
Know the dark, but let it rest
Left to lurkers in their quest
Let the watchers fight
And the blood ignite
The chosen

Born of graves and left below
Painted ashes, painted snow
When the dark awakens
Fires of our last hope are getting low
Souls of gods and souls of men
Meet in cinders to ascend
Fate has chosen
And our fading light is at its end

Souls to revive us
Or rot us away
Want for the weary
And death for the sane
Cursed yet we listen
For bells left to toll
To fight back the depths of
Humanity's soul
For the unkindled
We look to the sun
Cities in gold
All the victories won
Fear not the dark
Or the monsters, my friend
And brace for the feast
Of humanity's end

Born of graves and left below
Painted ashes, painted snow
When the dark awakens
Fires of our last hope are getting low
Souls of gods and souls of men
Meet in cinders to ascend
Fate has chosen
And our fading light is at its end

Born of graves and left below
Painted ashes, painted snow
When the dark awakens
Fires of our last hope are getting low
Souls of gods and souls of men
Meet in cinders to ascend
Fate has chosen
And our fading light is at its end

On SoulSong Version
Age of dark, an age of men
Turned to ashes to ascend
Fate has chosen, and our
Fading light is at its end

(Fading light...)

Overall Meaning

Aviators's song "Fading Light" is a powerful and emotional song that talks about the end of humanity and the battle between good and evil. The first verse brings up the image of life's breath in the candlelight, which implies the fragility of life. The second line, "Lost hearts in the dead of night," talks about the loneliness and despair that people feel when they are alone in the dark. The third line, "It's a long way down to the place they found," could suggest the journey people take when they die or the journey they embark upon to find hope when they feel lost.

The chorus is repeated throughout the song and talks about the fate of humanity. The souls of gods and men meet in cinders to ascend, which implies that the end of humanity will allow them to become something greater. The line "fires of our last hope are getting low" could refer to the idea that humanity has lost its will to survive or that time is running out.

Subsequent verses add to the story, talking about judgment born in frost, the dark that wants to be known but must be left to rest, and the curse of listening to the bells toll as a reminder of humanity's fate. The song ends with the same chorus repeated, driving home the idea that fate has chosen humanity's end, and the fading light is at its end.

Holy crap dude I have no clue by but this made me cry.

It's so creative with so many blatant references but it still contains meaning without just seeming like you've thrown the lyrics away.

Absolutely phenomenal I couldn't be happier, and as someone with 1000+ hours in DS3, my favourite has to be when I tried a broken straight sword run while fighting the abyss watchers.

Honestly so happy that I discovered this and I'll be sure to support some more of your songs, especially since I'm playing fallout 3 at the moment.

I promise to play DS3 with this in the background on repeat. INSTANT SUB.

@vihuynhquang5204

we were all been fooled, thinking the Fire is our answers...
Our ilks, from times and times,
Like moths drawn to flame...
Unkindled ashes seeketh ember,
Hollowed seeketh humanity.
Hear ye, hear ye:
The Fire is not the answer, but our suffering...
The Abyss is not man's heritage, for it is our insanity...
To snuff out the flame is not to doom the world...
...but to end this eternal cycle of suffering.
To snuff out the flame is not to welcome Abyss...
...for the Dark is our Heritage.
Fear the Fire, embrace the Dark,
but not to let both consumeth thee...

Humanity are more than that...
The Flame are fading, the Dark remains,
For those still seeketh hope, however fickle maybe,
Find the painting world, crackling in flame,
A cold, dark, gentle place awaits thee...
...a new beginning await thee...
...to begin again.

...Fear not the dark, my friend,
Let it be your end...
Let it be your mercy...
...and let it be your new beginning.

i just came up with this spontaneously, so let me know what do you think about this comment.

For those of you who have played it, I'm interested to hear what you think:

What was your favorite piece of the Souls series OST? I think Soul of Cinder might be mine (if I didn't give that away).

@gruffin7760

Hands down Slave Knight Gale's theme, that or the abyss watchers

@SoundOfTheAviators

Slave Knight Gael wins on drama between the setting of the fight and the music, that's for sure. It's so cinematic.

@gruffin7760

I think you should write a song for the slave knight, I think he deserves to have his story told by your amazing songs

@ZardBrood

In souls in general, Soul of CInder's transition to phase 2, or the entire boss fight with Gael. If we shall include bloodborne, hand's down Ludwig. The music, the cutscene, the lore... All of it amazing. But I do love finding blind bossfights with SoC and seeing the reactions to the musical shift

@heartsys

Dancer. Forever and always Dancer.

@AzrenSA

"Fear not the dark or the monsters, my friend,
And brace for the feast of Humanity's end" is one of the most chilling couplets in a song I've heard in a long time.

@thetau4866

We finally get to partake of our long awaited age.

And gods, is it exquisite

@Prophetofthe8thLegion

This is where the fun begins. Ave Dominus Nox.

@director1336

I just realised that "Our fading light is at its end" Is not only a reference to DS1, but also DS3 as in the first game when you light the fire, it's a massive explosion of fire, but in DS3 when you link the fire, it's just a small flame that barely covers the unkindled. The first fire is pathetically week and close to the end of its life at this point
