Having always been a lover of stories and made-up worlds, she has fed her passion for self-expression with a healthy lifestyle of creativity and writing. Since breaking into the music world in 2017, she has explored the themes of control and isolation and this can be seen in the themes explored in her writing as well. AViVA has said her music is about a 'Outsider's perspective and she is on a quest to help people feel a sense of strength around their identity and feel empowered to be themselves. AViVA once said she was always the "quirky" kid at school which was where she first felt like an Outsider herself. Her passion for performing arts and writing meant she often spent time in the library reading and writing or in the music classrooms.
AViVA grew up in a musical family. She started violin lessons when was 4 years old, and then studied piano before beginning classical vocal training and teaching herself guitar. AViVA attended high school at Mercy College in Chatswood, New South Wales, Australia and studied theatre and secondary education at the University of Notre Dame Australia eventually becoming a full time author and musician in 2018.
AViVA's debut novel SELF/LESS was released in October 2021 and the sequel RELENTLESS is due for release in August 2022. She has toured with artists such as Poppy and YUNGBLUD. She is also playing at MADCOOL festival in Madrid in 2022 and Riot Fest in Chicago in September 2022.
Melancholy

Time is running out
We both felt it throughout
Tell me what's running through your head
Caught, stuck in all of this spider's web
But I know I'm just mislead
So I'll say it once again, you've got me
When you're seeing all the sides
But my vision's blurred, won't ever stop me
Melancholy, you've got me, you've got me
Now you've got me dragging the chain
Melancholy, you've got me, you've got me
Feels like I've got some blood on the brain
Hear me scream and shout
Caught in this roundabout
Tangled thoughts wrapped up in cotton thread
Didn't wanna leave my bed
Once again I've been mislead on my knees
Caught, stuck in all of this spider's web
But I know I'm just mislead
So I'll say it once again, you've got me
Now it's easier to compromise
When you're seeing all the sides
But my vision's blurred, won't ever stop me
Melancholy, you've got me, you've got me
Now you've got me dragging the chain
Melancholy, you've got me, you've got me
Feels like I've got some blood on the brain
One, two, three, four
Vicious, knocking at my door
Seven, eight, nine, ten
Burn the candle at both ends
One, two, three, four
Vicious, knocking at my door
Seven, eight, nine, ten
Burn the candle at both ends
Melancholy, you've got me, you've got me
Now you've got me dragging the chain
Melancholy, you've got me, you've got me
Feels like I've got some blood on the brain
Melancholy, you've got me, you've got me
It will never be the same
Aviva’s song “Melancholy” explores the feelings of being trapped in a complex and tangled web of emotions. The song seems to be about a relationship that has encountered some issues and is on the verge of ending. The first verse starts with the lyrics “Melancholy, you’ve got me, you’ve got me, Time is running out.” These lines are suggestive of the fact that the relationship is nearing its end, and both the partners are feeling a sense of urgency to resolve their issues. However, they’re not quite sure how to go about it, as the lines “Tell me what's running through your head” also indicate.
The second verse paints a picture of the internal struggle that often accompanies a troubled relationship. The singer of the song feels trapped and lost, as evidenced by the lyrics, “Tangled thoughts wrapped up in cotton thread, Didn’t wanna leave my bed”. The use of the metaphorical spider’s web represents the negative emotions that are holding the singer back in this situation, making it difficult for them to see things clearly.
The chorus is the main hook of the song, where Aviva repeats the line “Melancholy, you’ve got me, you’ve got me” multiple times. The repetition emphasizes the overwhelming emotion that is the central focus of the song. The continuous use of the descending melody in the chorus line gives it a sense of sadness and resignation, which is befitting of the theme of the song.
