Falling Into History
Avril Lavigne Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I never did believe them
I know, I know they know everything
I'll be alright by myself
And no one's gonna tell me I'm defined
Confined by love
Now our days seem strange
I fell out, out of you and me
You're fading from view
And you're falling into history
I fell out, out of you and me
You're fading from view
And you're falling into history
I never thought that I'd say
That I don't really miss you
I lived, I breathed your breath through me
Time has a way of passing by
Until I don't remember why or how to hurt for you
Love's pain has gone somewhere
And I'm finally hanging it there
I fell out, out of you and me
You're fading from view
And you're falling into history
I fell out, out of you and me
You're fading from view
And you're falling into history
Falling into, falling into, you're falling into history
I fell out, out of you and me
You're fading from view
And you're falling into history
I fell out, out of you and me
You're fading from view
And you're falling into history
I'll be alright by myself
And no one's gonna tell me I'm defined
Confined by love
In "Falling Into History," Avril Lavigne sings about moving on from a relationship and finding freedom from the pain of lost love. The lyrics convey a sense of self-awareness and empowerment as she declares that she never believed the negative opinions of others and refuses to be defined by love. She acknowledges that her heart has changed and that she no longer misses her ex-partner, describing how time has healed the pain of the separation. The chorus is poignant, as she declares that her former partner is "falling into history" while she moves on with her life.
One of the prevailing themes in the song is the idea of personal growth and the importance of letting go of the past to move forward in life. Lavigne shows an appreciation for the passage of time and the way it can heal emotional wounds, lending the song a sense of optimism and hopefulness. The lyrics are relatable to anyone who has experienced the pain of a lost relationship and offers a message of strength and resilience.

Avril seriously has the best B-Sides. These also get more revelant as we get older because we can just relate to these songs so much.

Avril just has such a deep effect on me, I can't explain it. I feel she is most herself in these songs and they really touch my heart in a way that fills me with a tremendous nostalgia. She made me the person I am. I've always been really into her music, but I started being a huge fan when I was 13... I'm 22 now. I don't listen to her as much as I used to, but I know that I wouldn't be who I am today without her, and I'm forever grateful to her. I always dreamt that one day I would hug her and tell her just how much she means to me.

19-year-old or younger Avril had this voice...
well it's kinda special and elegant
quite a comparison with her fairy-like voice after 19 year old
both are great
Rocker Dude
I love the way you call her higher-pitched voice "fairy-like".
