All That Glitters
Ayria Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Got nothing to say to you
Got nothing to prove
Teen angst, it fades away
But all you assholes never change
There's nothing left to say
Nothing left to do
Been knocked out so many times
I'm scarred and broke and scabbed and bruised

But I'm still standing
And that will never change
All you have shown me
Is all that glitters
Is not gold
Is not gold
And all your glitter
It gets old
It gets old
You get old

Seen evils rise and fall
Heard lies and truths
Seen more than I'd like to
But seen enough to know
That assholes never change
Laid it all out for you
I've been right and wrong
Nothing they could say or do
Will change a thing
I've held on for this long

But I'm still standing
And that will never change
All you have shown me
Is all that glitters
Is not gold
Is not gold
And all your glitter
It gets old
It gets old
You get old

Got nothing to say to you
Got nothing to prove
Teen angst, it fades away
But all you assholes never change
There's nothing left to say
Nothing left to do
Been knocked out so many times
I'm scarred and broke and scabbed and bruised

And I'm still standing
And that will never change
All this has shown me
Is all that glitters
Is not gold
Is not gold
And all your glitter
It gets old
It gets old
Yeah, you get old

It gets old
It gets old

Teen angst
It fades away
All you assholes never change

Is all that glitters
Is not gold
Is not gold
And all your glitter
It gets old
It gets old
Is all that glitters
Is not gold
Is not gold
And all your glitter
It gets old

It gets old
You get old

Overall Meaning

The song "All that Glitters" by Ayria talks about a person who has been through a lot in their life and has come to the realization that not everything that looks good on the outside is actually good on the inside. The first verse talks about how the person has nothing left to say or prove to others who have wronged them in the past. Despite being knocked down many times, they still remain standing while the others who have hurt them continue to be the same. The chorus then declares that all glitter is not gold, it gets old, and so do the people who only care for appearances.

The second verse expands on this idea, saying that the person has seen the rise and fall of evils and has heard both lies and truths. They have been right and wrong but nothing will ever change the fact that they have held on for so long despite the hardships. The chorus repeats, emphasizing the point that all that glitters is not gold and it gets old.

In the end, the song comes full circle with the same lines from the first verse, seemingly pointing out the cyclical nature of life and the fact that the assholes who have hurt the singer in the past will continue to do so, as teen angst fades away but certain people never change.
