A caballo vamos pal monte
A caballo vamos pal monte
A caballo vamos pal monte
A caballo vamos pal monte
Soy guajiro y carretero guamba
En el campo vivo bien
Soy guajiro y carretero guamba
En el campo vivo bien
Porque el campo es el edén
Mas lindo del mundo entero
A caballo vamos pal monte
A caballo vamos pal monte
A caballo vamos pal monte
A caballo vamos pal monte
Chapea el monte cultiva el llano
Recoge fruto de tu sudor
Chapea el monte cultiva el llano
Recoge fruto de tu sudor
A caballo vamos pal monte
A caballo vamos pal monte
A caballo vamos pal monte
A caballo vamos pal monte
The lyrics of "Caballo" by Azucar Moreno paint a vivid picture of the joys of rural life in the Guajira region. The song celebrates the simple pleasures and hard work that make up the lives of the carreteros (wagon drivers) and guajiros (peasants) who call this place home. The first verse describes a carretero passing by, singing with great gusto and humor about his daily struggles and dreams. He sings about working tirelessly to save up the money he needs to marry the woman he loves, expressing his hope that if he can achieve this goal he will be truly content.
This is followed by a chorus that repeats the phrase "a caballo vamos pal monte" (we're going horseback riding in the mountains), emphasizing the joy and freedom that comes from this kind of outdoor adventure. The second verse continues the theme of celebrating rural life, with the singer proclaiming his love for the world he inhabits. He identifies himself both as a guajiro (peasant) and a carretero (wagon driver) and talks about his deep appreciation for the natural beauty of the region. The final verse encourages listeners to work hard and enjoy the fruits of their labor, reminding them that through perseverance and determination they can achieve their goals and experience the joys of rural life.
