Composed by sisters Antonia (Toñi) and Encarnación (Encarna) Salazar, the singing duo comes from Badajoz. They are part of a large family of performers: their grandfather was a musician, their father a singer and author, their brothers the members of the group Los Chunguitos and their uncle is famous singer Porrina de Badajoz. The Azucar Moreno sisters began their singing careers as back-up vocalists to their brothers, but in 1982, they were discovered and signed by record label EMI Spain, resulting in two albums with moderate commercial success released in 1984 and 1986. In 1988 they signed with CBS-Epic and relaunched their music with a bolder production style and matching sexier image and released the album Carne De Melocoton. They became one of the first Spanish acts to combine their Romani heritage and traditional cantaora vocal style with urban dance rhythms like disco, r'n'b, funk and techno.

The lyrics to "Hava Nagila" by Azucar Moreno appear to be a variation of the Hebrew folk song of the same name. The original song's lyrics roughly translate to "Let us rejoice" and encourage those listening to come together in celebration. Similarly, the repeated phrase "Hava anguila hava" in the Azucar Moreno version could be interpreted as a call to joyous unity.
However, it's important to note that the Azucar Moreno version of "Hava Nagila" is not a direct translation of the original Hebrew lyrics. Instead, the Spanish duo has offered their own interpretation of the song, complete with upbeat Latin rhythms and energetic vocals. With this in mind, it's likely that the lyrics have been altered to better suit the duo's style and the general mood of the song.
Overall, the lyrics to Azucar Moreno's "Hava Nagila" seem to emphasize the importance of coming together in joy and celebration. Whether singing in Hebrew or Spanish, the message remains the same - life is better when we come together and celebrate.
