The original lineup consisted of Ricky on guitar, Doug on guitar, Mike on keyboard, and Josh on drums. Originally, the mere purpose was to perform at a school spring concert, which they did. The success of the performance, however, is subject to judgment. Due to creative differences and lack of commitment, Josh left the band. Over the summer of 2005, Mike switched to bass and B& faced the problem that many bands face in their early days: No drummer, and no vocalist.
Starting in the spring of 2005, B& began to work on a concept album. The concept was produced by Ricky out of nowhere one day, and that was the seven deadly sins. The idea developed into a story with those themes.
To best describe B&'s sound, it is a mix of mostly progressive and power metal, heavily influenced by their favourite artists. The band likes to focus on melody and such rather than "heaviness."

To me, English is relatively normal because I have had to learn it at school since age 5, but I have met a lot of German-speaking people who think English spelling is crazy!

@Наблюдатель But certain Russian words also have letters that we usually don't pronounce (like the T in Russian word for stairs "лестница" - les(t)nitza). But Russian has strong root words in grammatics that we knowing, so it saves the situation.

English spelling is hell. German spelling is better but it's close to hell :) I'm a Russian and we pronounce every letter we write. There are several exceptions but they are minor. When I was a child I saw a game on TV where children spell every word. I thought what a stupid game. You just have to pronounce sounds and they are letters. When I started to learn English I understood that for English the game makes sense :)

The word for receipt is also related to the german word "Rezept" in which you definitely do speak the P. So it might not always be this way.

Correct! German took the word straight from Latin though, not via French. The P was lost in French before the word passed into English.

Hang on isle and island come from french, where before the accent circumflex, the s was indeed pronounced.

@RobWords : In german we have the nowadays very rare Eiland. , Land at/ near the water' is in most parts of Germany ,Au' which is in northern/ low german ,ey' for example in german island Norderney , but also Jersey. Sidenote : Some kilometers away there is the small town Owen ( spoken Auen) which is confusing strangers, because they speak Owen Owen( german way) and don' t expect ,Auen'.

@RobWords Similar to that circumflex is the Spanish ñ, which originally was nn, and still pronounced "ny". Similar to how ll is pronounced "ly" in Spanish (or some accents of it). I don't know if there are more consonants with similar behaviour though.

Top quality comment, John. I would expect nothing less than immacualate French linguistic history knowledge from un Québecois. I'm planning a video on the whole circumflex-hinting-at-an-old-S thing at some point, because it makes translating French to English so much easier when you know it. Same with the "é" hinting at a long-gone "es".

Those S's were removed by the Academie Francaise because they weren't being pronounced. Isle was indeed an Old French spelling of île but in Anglo-Norman the S was gone.

Island doesn't come from French. Its roots are Germanic, meaning loosely "watery land". Promise.

Now there's a question! I would describe it as derived from both. Old French is just a stop-off on the journey from Latin to English.

BONUS FACT: We've taken the word debitum into English twice: as debt AND debit.

English spelling is not so stupid, if you understand its origins. Back in the days of the Gutenberg Press, Printers decided on spellings based on local/regional pronunciations. Eventually, spellings became standardized. And then came along the nice American fellow, Webster who took another crack at standardizing spelling - which still causes debate.

I douBt it 😜 It was usage.

As crazy as English spelling looks, it was based on reality. I still get a kick out of listening to words like thought, through, though, bought, bough, caught, cough, etcetera in Scotland today. That GH & GHT are still pronounced.

English is not the worst at this. Modern Greek still spells words in Ancient spelling, even though the pronunciation changed several times over. Other languages have it too. Heck, the Irish or Welsh don’t pronounce half their letters it feels like.

You're Than Your Then, Where We're Were Quite Quiet

Disagree for Irish, The Irish spelling completely captured the Irish tongue phonetically, just like how it was pronounced by native tongues. The problem with it is only one, when they add the letter [ h ] to soft consonants which were originally were consonants with dot on them. Other than that, it's very logical.

For me English is way worse than Irish or Welsh. Even though English and Irish have silent letters, Irish spelling is a lot regular and predictable unlike English.

Fun fact as someone who learns english i found it much easier to say thos letters in the back of my mouth,
Ever since its been easy to KNOW how to spell them,
I just make sure that the B&P are towned down so no one can hear them
