All Over Again
B.B. King Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've got a good mind to give up living, and go shopping instead
I say, I've got a good mind to give up living, and go shopping instead
To pick up me a tombstone, and be pronounced dead

When I read your letter this morning, that was in your place in bed
I read your letter this morning, that was in your place in bed
That's when I decided, that I would be better off dead
It read, there is no use you looking, or ever hoping to get me back

Oh, there's no use you looking, or ever hoping to get me back
Yes, because it's all over now, and you can bet on that

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of B.B. King's song All Over Again are full of despair and a deep sense of loss. The opening lines, "I've got a good mind to give up living, and go shopping instead," suggest a longing for escape from the painful reality of a broken relationship. The desire to go shopping for a tombstone is an eerie reflection of the singer's internal conflict. The tombstone is a symbol of his own death, which he believes is a better alternative to the unbearable pain he feels.

The second stanza reads, "When I read your letter this morning, that was in your place in bed/I read your letter this morning, that was in your place in bed/That's when I decided, that I would be better off dead." The letter from his lover, who has left him for good, devastates the singer, and he feels as though he has lost everything. He decides that life is not worth living anymore without her, and death is a better option. The final verse, "It read, there is no use you looking, or ever hoping to get me back/Oh, there's no use you looking, or ever hoping to get me back/Yes, because it's all over now, and you can bet on that," is the nail in the coffin for the singer. He accepts that the relationship is over, and there is no hope for reconciliation.

Hands down. The greatest version of this song I've ever heard! Wonderful opening guitar solo, brilliant piano solo, a most masterful crescendo and heartfelt singing. What more could one possibly ask for?

You can purchase the best recorded version of this song on IPOD store. On the album How Blue Can You Get (classic live performances), it goes under the name 'all over again' with the Jazz Crusaders. It is a great recording.

This song is his most beautiful number, by lyrics and by playing. The most touching instrumental version was in Japan:

Thank you for having been on earth!! Thank you for what you leave behind!!

1 of the most influential guitarists , sadly his death was not really a deal to many a people . he had more talent in one year than prince did in a lifetime and you see who everyone made a fuss about
