* In 1971, Jonathan King produced his own version, adding ooka shaka jungle chants similar to, but not exactly the same as, Johnny Preston's "Running Bear." King described it as "a reggae rhythm by male voices." His version was a Top 30 hit throughout Europe.
* In 1974 the Swedish pop group Blue Swede with Björn Skifs as lead singer did a cover, with the ooka shaka introduction, that reached number one in the USA, and was revived on the Reservoir Dogs soundtrack in 1992. In 1975, this version was subject to some minor controversy when Wilson Bryan Key, in his book, "Subliminal Seduction", claimed the words "ooka shaka" are changed to the phrase "who got sucked off" at 0:33 into the song.
A Valentine's Day themed episode of Bobby's World featured the original B.J. Thomas version of the song describing Bobby's feelings toward Jackie.
The introduction ("ooga chakka") of Blue Swede's version of the song was parodized on Mystery Science Theater 3000's episode 506 (Eegah) by Tom Servo and Crow while watching the film: "EEGAH-chakka!! EEgah!! EEgah!!"
It was covered again in 1997 by David Hasselhoff. The music video of the Hasselhoff version became an Internet phenomenon due to its surreal visuals, low production quality, and Hasselhoff's celebrity status. Excerpts from the Blue Swede version of the song were used as the audio that accompanied the "Dancing Baby" Internet phenomenon of 1996-1997.
The introduction ("ooga chakka") of this song was sampled in the Offspring song "Special Delivery" off the Conspiracy of One album in 2000.
It was also covered 2003 by Vonda Shepard and was featured on the Ally McBeal soundtrack. That cover was used during the dancing baby hallucinations that Ally faced in a few episodes.
In 2005 it was used in Cheerios and Listerine commercial.
It was used on the Shrek 2 DVD as Captain Hook sang it during "Far, Far Away Idol".
The "ooga chakka" introduction was used briefly in an Animaniacs cartoon in the 1990s when the Warners found themselves amongst jungle cannibals.
It was parodied in an season 3 episode of Two and a Half Men in which Charlie is kidnapped and drugged by a group of Satan-worshipping women who start to chant "anointment" repeatedly, to which Charlie begins to sing "Hooked on a Feeling."

Deep inside of me
Girl, you just don't realize
What you do to me
Your lips are sweet as candy
The taste stays on my mind
You just keep me thirsty For another cup of wine
When you hold me
In your arms so tight
You let me know
Everything's all right
I, I'm hooked on a feeling
I'm high on believing
That you're in love with me
I've got it bad for you, darling
But I don't need a cure
I'll just stay addicted
And hope I can endure
All the good love
When we're all alone
Keep it up boy
Yeah, you turn me on
I, I'm hooked on a feeling
I'm high on believing
That you're in love with me
When you hold me
You let me know
Everything's all right
I, I'm hooked on a feeling
I'm high on believing
That you're in love with me
I said I'm hooked on a feeling
B.J. Thomas's song Hooked On a Feeling is a classic love song that expresses a feeling of deep attachment and obsession for someone. The song presents an intense emotional state that the singer cannot control, where he feels addicted to the person he loves. The lyrics "I can't stop this feeling, deep inside of me" and "I'm hooked on a feeling, high on believing that you're in love with me" represent the powerful rush that love can create. The singer seems to be overwhelmed by his love, and he is grateful for every moment he spends with his partner, as it helps him feel alright.
Moreover, the lyrics also depict the physical effect of love on the singer's body. "When you hold me, in your arms so tight, you let me know everything's all right," he sings, showing how he feels safe and protected in the arms of his lover. The lyrics "Your lips are sweet as candy, the taste stays on my mind, girl, you keep me thirsty for another cup of wine" further suggest the immense physical attraction between the two, with the singer unable to stop thinking about the taste of his lover's lips.
All in all, the song expresses a deep, uncontrollable love for someone, a feeling that can be both overwhelming and addictive.

Aww, this brings back sweet memories of a handsome young man I knew in high school that I crushed on, we were just friends and ate our lunch together in the cafeteria; he was gentle, quirky and always made me laugh. But after high school, we went our separate ways, married other people until 2018, when we both found ourselves single again. We discovered each other by accident on Facebook and have been inseparable ever since...it took 40 years but sometimes love is meant to be!!

This was my song to my wife when we met back in 1968 sadly she passed in 21,brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. She was my soul mate. Love you babe.
@albertmarnell9976
I understand. The song brings tears to my eyes too. Life is a series of losses. Nothing and no one lasts. How we cope with pain in a hostile, indifferent world is random. And then we end.
I'm sorry for whatever it is that you feel. I know what loss and pain is. I was 13 in 1968 and would get goose bumps from the emotion in this song.
I get it. Very few people have a real soul mate.
@rickcarpenter6605
@@albertmarnell9976 Thanks for that, we met at a school dance, she was 13 and I was 15,very mature for her age. Within a few months I knew she was put on this earth to be with me till death do us part. Always by my side through good and bad, together for 53 years 48 of those we were married. Soul mates for sure!!
