Laws relocated to Los Angeles after graduating high school. Laws was spotted by DJ Quik who stuck her on a track with AMG. Russell Simmons liked the track and promptly signed her to Def Jam West.[1] Her debut album Born Gangstaz was released in 1993,[2] and the singles, "Deeper" and "Recipe for a Hoe", hit number one on the Billboard Hot Rap Tracks chart.[3]
Laws' fledgling career took a major blow in 1994 when she interviewed with a reporter from The Wall Street Journal. The reporter thought he revealed that she grew up in an upper middle-class family and attended private school.[4][5] Rumors later stated she was dropped from the label for revealing she was from the middle class.[citation needed] As it turned out, the reporter did not listen to the album before interviewing the artist. Further, Laws had left Detroit after high school to pursue a contract in New York, which brought on a hard survivalist mentality by the time she settled in Los Angeles. Def Jam was well aware of her background when she was signed, and she was never dropped from the label.
In the mid-1990s, she moved to Dallas, Texas, and went on to be a radio DJ. In 2001, she collaborated with Krayzie Bone on his album Thug On Da Line. In 2004, she released a mixtape titled The Six Million Dollar Mixtape produced by Def Jef.[citation needed]
It was revealed in May 2011 that Laws is in need of a kidney due to her suffering from renal disease, a disease which rendered her kidneys useless for processing toxins in her body. Laws reached out to the FaceBook community for a potential donor. A donor is yet to be found.[6]

At its finest form ya dig
Ooohhh this beat so Player!
You are now entering BOOMsWORLD!
I just need somewhere to lay my head
Working so much I don't see my bed
Working hard for better days ahead
But I'd rather be with you instead
Working so much I don't see my bed
Working hard for better days ahead
But I'd rather be with you instead
Lay my head
Thank you Father for this daily bread
Many nights I couldn't get no rest
Either way I'm still blessed
Out of town can't see my family
I just know that they here with me
In my heart and in my consciousness
I know that I'm still blessed
I need somewhere to lay my head
Working so much I don't see my bed
Working hard for better days ahead
I'm just tryna go and stack this bread
And I just need somewhere to lay my head
Working so much I don't see my bed
The song "Freestyle" by B.O.S.S. is an introspective reflection on the experience of success and struggle. The opening lines describe the track as art at its finest form and sets the tone for the lyrical musings that follow. The beat is called out for its undeniable coolness and the listener is informed that they are entering BoomsWorld, which seems to be an imagined space of pure creation and artistic expression.
The lyrics then take on a more personal note, as the artist describes the difficulties of balancing hard work with personal relationships. The emphasis is on the admission that despite the desire to work hard to ensure brighter days ahead, the singer would still rather be with their loved ones. The repetition of the lyrics "I just need somewhere to lay my head" serve as a refrain or chorus that emphasizes the idea of seeking solace in the midst of hard work and isolation.
The second half of the song has a more spiritual focus, as the artist expresses gratitude to a higher power for the "daily bread" of success and acknowledges the blessings in their life despite the struggles. The final lines return to the central theme of working hard and seeking to build a better life, underlining the importance of having a place to rest and recover from the challenges of the journey.
