After 1974's Calabasas he landed at Warner Bros. to issue We Be Sailin' a year later. Down to the Station, from 1977's Lost Feeling, was his last chart hit, and after 1980's Lifeline his recording career was over. Sadly, Stevenson died on April 28, 1988 shortly after undergoing heart valve surgery; he was just 38 years old. Since his death, Poor David's Pub in Dallas has held an annual songwriting competition in his memory.
Author Jan Reid devotes a chapter to Stevenson in his book The Improbable Rise of Redneck Rock, dubbing him "The Voice".
In mid 1996, Stevenson's hit My Maria reached the charts again when it was covered by the country duo Brooks & Dunn, for whom it became a three-week #1 country hit.
Home Again
B.W. Stevenson Lyrics

If I'm ever gonna make it home again
It's so far and out of sight
I really need someone to talk to
And nobody else knows how to comfort me tonight
Snow is cold, rain is wet
Chills my soul right to the marrow
I won't be happy
Till i'm home again and feeling right
I wanna be home again and feeling right
The lyrics of B.W. Stevenson's song "Home Again" convey a sense of loneliness and longing for home. The singer of the song is far away from home, and he wonders if he'll ever be able to return. He feels isolated and in need of comfort, but no one seems to be able to ease his worries. The coldness of the snow and rain reflects the bleakness of his emotional state. He can only hope to see his loved ones again, to be back in familiar surroundings, and ultimately, to feel happy once more.

Sometimes I wonder
At times, I contemplate
If I'm ever gonna make it home again
Whether I'll ever arrive at my abode
It's so far and out of sight
It's too distant and concealed
I really need someone to talk to
I desperately require a confidant
And nobody else knows how to comfort me tonight
And none other can console me tonight
Snow is cold, rain is wet
Cold is the snow, wet is the rain
Chills my soul right to the marrow
It causes my spirit to tremble to the core
I won't be happy
I shan't be content
Till i see you alone again
Until I gaze upon you by myself once more
Till i'm home again and feeling right
Until I return to my domicile and feel at ease
I wanna be home again and feeling right
I yearn to be back home and content
