"FILM THE POLICE," has quickly become an anthem for the #Occupy generation, and shows no signs of slowing it's spread.
B. Dolan began performing in 1999 in the heart of the spoken word scene; New York City's famous Nuyorican Poets Cafe, where he developed his chops quickly. An 18 year old Dolan arrived for the first time as part of HBO's Def Poetry Series in 2002, and the respect earned with numerous performance poetry championships in the two years that followed.
2003 also saw the first release of "The Failure," [at the time] a two-disc, homegrown demo full of Dolan's earliest work.
After this self-release, Dolan disappeared from the poetry scene to pursue more overtly musical projects, as well as his own contribution to the struggle against social injustice.
In the midst of inventing the ragged, breakdown aesthetic of his later work, Dolan also dug in his activist roots by creating and co-founding the Knowmore.org website with former slam teammate and friend Sage Francis.
B. Dolan joined Francis on The Knowmore.org Tour in support of the project, which is when Francis expressed interest in releasing a revised version of "The Failure" on Strange Famous Records.
2008 brought about the official re-release of "The Failure" lp, which was trimmed down by a disc, and was critically acclaimed as a genre-defying, unheralded classic. It also earned a legion of die hard fans for Dolan's spoken word pieces, who've stuck around since to watch this unique artist's continual reinvention.
In 2009 he released House of Bees vol. 1, a full length mixtape that served to build momentum toward his 2010 release. Then, in 2010, "Fallen House, Sunken City" hit. Dolan's decidedly hip-hop sophomore lp was hailed by rap legends, critics and fans as a massive success. Alternative Press called the album "proof that underground hip hop still has bite," and The Onion's A.V. Club named it "One of the best albums of 2010." "Earthmovers," the album's first video, also became an MTVu Freshman of the Week and was entered into rotation on MTV2.
Since his signing to SFR, Dolan has toured exhaustively and internationally, most notably as part of the Paid Dues, SXSW 09, Soundset, and Rock the Bells festivals.
In addition to his partner and frequent collaborator Sage Francis, Dolan has also toured with the likes of Buck 65, Alias, Sole, Solilaquests of Sound, Prolyphic, Dan le sac vs. Scroobius Pip, Grand Buffet and others.
Mr. Buddy Buddy

The charlatan; the confidence man,
Half man half mannequin
Living in the closet where the objects are inanimate
Jingling his pockets, Talking money in his sleep
Talking funny like a president, Buddy is a creep.
He studied to be a priest
Now he preaches to the lost toys
Sneaky with the altar boys
Ask him what his name is.
He'll tell ya "Buddy Buddy, heh heh,
no relation."
The living go to die in the hole where his face is
At the beginning of time
he showed Satan how to shapeshift
Body image issues--
Never seen himself naked
Making money is a hobby but he wants to be famous
He goes antique shopping for Nazi pariphenalia
but Buddy's not a racist
He just loves a good sales pitch
Whichever way the scales tip
You can't knock the hustle
of reaching in your chest
and squeezing that weak muscle...
Mister Buddy Buddy.
Doin the Buddy Buddy.
(x4)
Say hello to Buddy Buddy
at the scene of the accident.
Master of the fast-pitch bumper sticker magnet
Pump it to the masses
Who snatch it up like addicts
Unsnap the brass latches of alligator suitcase
And pedal pleasant fragments
With new and improved taste
Six million ways to flavor the Kool Aid.
A ripple through his face when the room gets played
Never let a little thing like Truth get in the way...
The music he makes is loop-based
Blooms like a stain
Grows on ya like a rash or a tumor on the brain
Cyanide and toothpaste, the tools of his trade
Pass the laughing gas cuz Buddy is onstage!
A master of the craft
A study in blackface
A series of site gags in utterly bad taste
With a clearance price tag on everything he displays
He gets the fuck outta Dodge ahead of the hurricane...
Nothing remains but destruction in his wake
and bunch of no-buddies
praying for more rain....
Mister Buddy Buddy.
Doin the Buddy Buddy.
(x4)
In B. Dolan's song Mr. Buddy Buddy, the lyrics describe an unscrupulous character who is a charlatan and a confidence man. He is referred to as half man, half mannequin, and lives in a closet amongst inanimate objects. The character jingles his pockets, talks money in his sleep, and speaks in a fake presidential tone. It is revealed that he previously studied to be a priest, but now preaches to lost toys and altar boys. The character's name is Buddy Buddy, but he claims to have no relation to himself.
The lyrics continue to describe Buddy Buddy's traits, including body image issues, a hobby of making money, and a love for shopping for Nazi paraphernalia. Although he claims not to be racist, he loves a good sales pitch. The song implies that Buddy Buddy is a manipulative and exploitative individual who will stop at nothing to succeed. The chorus, which repeats the phrase "Mister Buddy Buddy, doin the Buddy Buddy," suggests that the character is always putting on a show and manipulating those around him.
The song also touches on the power of propaganda and marketing. It describes how Buddy Buddy is a master of selling ideas, slogans, and products. The lyrics mention his use of fast-pitch bumper stickers and loop-based music to peddle his wares. Despite his lies and deceit, people still flock to him like addicts. The song implies that Buddy Buddy's success is based on his ability to manipulate people's emotions and desires.
Overall, the lyrics to Mr. Buddy Buddy are a scathing critique of capitalism, propaganda, and manipulation. The character of Buddy Buddy represents the worst aspects of these systems and the harm they can inflict on society.
