Family
B. Morr & Teddy P. Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Yes a him name the boss of crime
Mr. Don Vito eh I
Nobody ever yet cross him line
Something might reach you

Throw a dollar to the shoe shine boy
And say he's a goodfellow
Silk ties and designer shirts
All buttons to the collar
Limousines, lots of greens
For him and his harlot queen
Sub-machines the order of his day

Because he's caught up in a family business
Living the life of a ganster yeah
Caught up in a family business
No way out, no way out

Day to day it's a life of violence
Big man him a run things
Sworn of committed to a board of silence
Could you imagine
Boot legging, amrs-peddling
Lots of plots and cons and schemes
Gambling, the order of his day

Jah know he's caught up in a family business
Living the life of a mafia yeah
Caught up in a family business
No way out, no way out

Bad example setting in the ghetto
All the youths want to be like Vito
Move fast none a dem no wah move slow
But my advise in N-O
To be a don not for long
Stay in low when the heat is on
The tradition soon you got to pass it on

Because he's caught up in a family business
Living the life of a ganster yeah
Caught up in a family business
No way out, no way out

Jah know he's caught up in a family business
Living the life of a mafia yeah

Caught up in a family business
No way out, no way out

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to B. Morm & Teddy P.'s song "Family" talks about a man named Mr. Don Vito who is the "boss of crime" and nobody has ever crossed his line. He lives a life of luxury with silk ties, designer shirts, lots of greens, and limousines. However, his day-to-day life is filled with violence, bootlegging, and arms-peddling. Mr. Don Vito is caught up in a family business and there is no way for him to get out. This is because he is sworn to a board of silence and the tradition is something that he will inevitably have to pass on.

The song is warning the youth to not look up to people like Mr. Don Vito as a bad example that is setting in the ghetto. The youths that want to be like him should move fast, but it is not advisable to do so. Instead, they should stay low when the heat is on and not follow his footsteps. The song implies that the life Mr. Don Vito lived is not one to be envied, even though it might appear luxurious on the surface.

The song tells a story of a man caught up in criminal activities and shows the harsh reality of what that life entails. It warns to not get involved in something which can ruin their life and hurt innocents.

Adon is Victorious

@Roko Proverbs 22:6
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

You don't really have the spirit of God which is why you're making excuses for her wickedness!

1 John 4:1
Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

God doesn't care about youth...you do his commandments or pay the consequences simply as that.

As for you trying to turn this on me "be glad it didn't happen to me"?!

Exodus 15:3
The Lord is a man of war: Yahuah is his name.

So me being a man of God would make me a man of war as well... So with that being said I have a right to defend myself against someone trying to harm me right? So I don't worry about things like that because I'm willing to defend myself with deadly force if necessary.

@Aleetha Dixon Again things that sound good. Where is this magical group of black women laying their lives and freedom on the line for black men that they don't know?
Because I've never seen them. And if you're talking about the protests, yeah that was not just women out there, and it's far from risking their lives "quite often for their male counterparts". Most of them were out there taking selfies and just hanging out like it was a festival. I don't know if you've ever been to a modern protest, but it's actually a pretty good time. Sometimes there's poetry, live music, some food trucks.

This idea you have of the black community is a lie. It's great for social media likes, but it's not reality.
Most black communities are not close knit. The families are fractured, and there are virtually no competent black male leaders in these areas outside of church officials and they don't help the community in any major way outside of providing spiritual refuge. Not to mention we don't own any of the land or property in these communities, so even if we weren't so culturally screwed up, we could be gentrified and uprooted at anytime.
Look around you, what's left of the black community that's worth dying for as a man? Dying for a woman that likely can't/won't look after my family when I'm gone?
You want to know why most black men aren't willing to die for "our" women outside of family. It's because we understand that black culture is toxic and place our own legacy way above the health of the community in terms of priorities.

You are judging modern men with the scale of a traditional man. That's unlikely to do anything but disappoint you. Just like a guy who judges modern women on a traditional scale.
Black women aren't ours anymore. There's no more tribe, there's no more community that isn't social media based. Nobody feels responsible for other people anymore unless its for clout, likes, and followers.
The fact that you think that a black man's worth basically amounts to being a sacrifice for random women or "he's not a man", is as repulsive as it is insane. .

@Aleetha Dixon I don't see many people praising the man who did this. In fact the vast majority are repulsed by him and show that condemnation in their comments. And as it refers to her work, most people are pointing out that she was playing a dangerous game and that what she does may have put her in harm's way more than a woman who doesn't do what she does.

Are random women who aren't in this industry stalked? Yes
Are women in this industry more at risk of being stalked? Yes.
Does this fact mean people are "victim blaming" or saying she was asking for it? No.

And I really don't understand the whole protection argument. Why is it so important that BM sacrifice their life for BW that they don't know or have an romantic or familial relationship with?
I don't see how BM having the common sense to not put their freedom and potentially their life at risk for saving a random woman, suddenly means that men want to murder women. That's crazy. You understand how insane that sounds right?

"If you're not willing to die for me, a person you don't know. It must mean you secretly want me to die."

What?

Pray over your home and children everyday! As often as you can. As a parent may you be in tune to the challenges they face and the way they need to be loved. Learn their love languages and flood them with the love they receive best!

Yes and the children have to listen and respect their parents and us older generation. The social media and celebrity life connected to money and fame is a horrible influence for those who are tryna get away from structure and tricked by the love or look of money and fame.
