1. Barrett Richards, an Electro / House / Bassline artist from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
2. An upcoming Hip-Hop / Rap artist from Baltimore.
1. B. Rich (aka Barrett Richards) of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is one of Americaβs welcome purveyors of fidgety, bass-heavy house music. With nearly a decade of DJ and producing experience within a rave scene that has come and gone, he has positioned himself nicely into house music and dropped like a bomb. Influenced at a young age by early hip hop and old school rave artists such as Moby, this artist has crafted a unique sound that is becoming internationally recognized.
His sound always focuses on a heavy bassline and which fuses breaks, classic house and rave elements. When asked to describe the name, he laughs and says βIβm not at all going for that glam thing. It was basically an inside joke and a nickname given by some friends and it just stuck.β
He shows his skills locally as a monthly resident for one of Bostonβs hottest party promoters, FTW, although he is not a stranger to dropping huge sets throughout the east coast, Canada and all the way out to LA. His lively and energetic live sets of quick mixing and banger-after-banger mentality always leaves an imprint on his crowds.
Over the past year B. Rich has gained the support from top artists such as Rico Tubbs, Foamo, AC Slater, Klever, DJ Craze, HeavyFeet, Designer Drugs, Reid Speed, Andy George, Udachi, Kelevra, and A1 Bassline to name a few. He has remixed for top labels such as Ministry Of Sound and Palms Out Sounds. Many of his tracks have also seen repeat BBC Radio 1 plays by Kissy Sell Out and plays on the UKβs Galaxy FM. With upcoming EPs of new and original work on both Palms Out Sounds and Party Like Us (which also features like-minded bass heads AC Slater and Udachi), 2009 is shaping up to be a big year for this experienced artist and DJ.
2. βCREATIVE IN HIS OWN RIGHT MARCHING TO HIS OWN RHYTHM B.RICH HAS ALWAYS BEEN ONE OF BALTIMOREβS MOST KNOWN TALENTS. HIS CAREER BEGAN WHEN HE WAS THE FIRST IN THE CITY EVER TO SIGN WITH A MAJOR LABEL. βWHOA NOWβ HE HAS SINCE THEN GONE ON TO HIS SOPHOMORE PROJECT βBORN RICHβ A WELL BALANCED CULTURAL EXPERIENCE THAT WAS EMBRACED ON A NATIONAL LEVEL. To the east side (We're movin' on up)
To a deluxe apartment in the sky
We're movin' on up (We're movin' on up)
To the east side (We're movin' on up)
We finally got a piece of the pie
Watch these grown men get it, know fo' sho'
You see the boy at the bar wit the glass so tall
When I'm done baby dogg I'ma show you Baltimore
Right now we gon' party, Bacardi give me some more
It's off the rack the club packed, I'm two-cut like two doors
Of course I do my two-step, I give 'em too much
I mustered up bad, I drop ashes in my cup
I had enough they throwin' bows, see they swingin and shit
I got my arm around this smut dame, puttin' in work
Before we merk I got to book somethin'
So baby stop frontin'
I got the drink and the smoke
Ain't got to buy nothin'
Not bluffin, it's goin' down understand me
I like my birds nasty, I burst in them cashmeres
Everything, and you know what I came for
Right now it's goin' down, let me on the dance floor
Whoa now, that's what the old heads say
I party like it's my birthday, drinkin and still thirsty
Whoa now, shorty give me what you got
The spot kinda live and I see you gettin hot
Whoa now, that's what the old heads say
I party like it's my birthday, drinkin and still thirsty
Whoa now, shorty give me what you got
The spot kinda live and I see you gettin hot
I came to shake a load off, so take your coat off
Mixed drinks what you think, OJ and Smirnoff
I sip it all - hey, what can I say
See I just got paid so I'm feelin' the swig and I'm tryin' get laid
I'm buyin' drinks and they love it
Divas growin' cheaper
Gucci bag Gucci bucket
Takin' shots from my cousin
He don' know how to act
Came straight out the woods
And the club wit a sack
Like what you know no good
But I know I pimp nasty
Sneakers is off the meter
You can't help wit the clap
Can't help but the boogie
Get loose but don't push me
We came so deep
And we're all wearin' hoodies
All my eighty-dime soldiers
What you doin' tonight
Now, put yo eight-dimes up
You made enough for the night
Let's take a break
Let's spend some cake
You ain't enjoyin' your life
Yo, we been workin' all week
So we gon' do it tonight
Come on
Whoa now, that's what the old heads say
I party like it's my birthday, drinkin and still thirsty
Whoa now, shorty give me what you got
The spot kinda live and I see you gettin hot
All my east-side boys put ya guns up
Pull out the knife cuz we gon' party till the law comes
Them boys yellin' where they from, I represent too
They throwin gang signs; see, I'm throwin' W's (Westside)
I'm screamin 80 dimes, I swear to God it's goin down
I don't remember where I parked, and I'm stuck in town
One night in Baltimore
I bet ya never leave
My boy I know I can't help it but to love these streets
C'mon (We finally got a-)
C'mon, c'mon (We finally-)
C'mon, whoa now (We finally got a piece of the-)
C'mon, c'mon, whoa now (We finally-)

The first stanza of B. Rich's Whoa Now is a homage to The Jeffersons, a popular TV series that ran from 1975 to 1985. In the show's opening theme, the lyrics go, "We're movin' on up, to the east side. To a deluxe apartment in the sky. We're movin' on up." With that reference, B. Rich declares his ascent to a higher level of success, both financially and socially. He is moving to the east side, which is often associated with prosperity, and is reaching for a "deluxe apartment in the sky." The use of the phrase "finally got a piece of the pie" implies that he has struggled in the past to achieve success and is now reaping the rewards of his hard work.
The second and third stanzas focus on partying and having fun. B. Rich urges the listener to put their feet on the dance floor and let loose. The chorus repeats the phrase "Whoa now," which is a common phrase used to express surprise or amazement. The lyrics seem to celebrate living in the moment, drinking and having fun with no worries or cares. B. Rich talks about his desire to hook up with someone and enjoy the night, while also flexing his financial muscle by buying drinks for others. The reference to "eighty-dime solders" suggests that they are a group of people who are tight-knit, share common struggles, and are loyal to one another.

I always love music that was played in the 60's 70's 80's when I was growing up especially when my grandparents and my parents listened to a mix varieties of class oldies and old school music. I'm 40 years younger and this is still my favorite music to sing and dance and clap my hands to.
