Can't Stay Away From You
B. Russell Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Though by tomorrow you're gone;
The song is ended, but as the songwriter wrote,
The melody lingers on.
They may take you from me, I'll miss your fond caress.
But though they take you from me, I'll still possess.
The way you wear your hatThe way your sip your tea
The memory of all that
No, no, they can't take that away from me
The way your smile just beams
The way you sing off key
The way you haunt my dreams
No, no, they can't take that away from me
We may never, never meet again
On the bumpy road to love
Still, I'll always, always keep the memory of
The way you hold your knife
The way we danced till three
The way you changed my life
No, no, they can't take that away from me
No, they can't take that away from me
W e may never, never meet again
On the bumpy road to love
Still, I'll always, always keep the memory of
The way you hold your knife
The way we danced till three
The way you changed my lifeNo, no, they can't take that away from me
No, they can't take that away from me
Can't take that away
Can't take that away from me
In the opening lyrics of B. Russell's song "Can't Stay Away From You," the singer promises that their romance won't end on a sorrowful note, despite the fact that their partner will be leaving by tomorrow. The singer states that, even though the song is ending, the melody will linger on, implying that even if their relationship ends, their memories and the feelings they shared will continue to exist. The singer acknowledges that they will miss their partner's affectionate touch, but even if they are separated physically, they will still possess the memories they created together.
The second verse of the song describes the various things about their partner that the singer will always cherish and cannot be taken away from them. From the way they wear their hat to the way they sip their tea, the singer has clearly fallen in love with their partner's quirks, and even the memories of these small things agitate their longing. The singer emphasizes that these precious memories, like the way their partner's smile beams or the way they sing off key, hold immense value to them, and can never be taken away. The last lines of the refrain repeats the sentiments expressed in the second verse, concluding that the memories of their partner, even the way they held their knife, will always be with the singer.
Overall, "Can't Stay Away From You" is a song about the enduring power of love memories. The singer suggests that, regardless of where their love leads them or whether they are together or not, they will always treasure the precious memories of their partner that have left a lasting impression on them.

@@raizenr2387 Yes, it's rude to say hateful things, but not criminal. If your actions aren't significantly injuring someone's well-being or ability to work/lead a good quality of life, it's bad form but they don't deserve to have it follow them for the rest of their lives.
That's the aspect of cancel culture that I'm against. We cannot share a society with other people if a single mistake or ill-considered moment is enough for social ostracization.
If your friend said something very bigoted, you'd pull them aside and tell them to stop being a dick. It doesn't warrant that friend losing their career with no recourse.
People make mistakes. We're not 100% perfect all the time. People also change and grow into better versions of themselves. We should give them the chance instead of irrevocably ruining their lives.
There's also something very Orwellian about designating certain kinds of speech as acceptable. It's fine to make fun/be creepy online about men. If you want examples just go to the 'feminist' side of twitter. For creepy, just look Jennifer Lawrence saying she'd 'ravish Timothee Chalamet once he's a bit older'. Imagine a male actor saying that about a young female up-and-comer. He'd be cancelled before he could finish his humiliating apology.
I'm not saying being racist/sexist in speech is nice or should be encouraged. Heck, I don't even swear unless it's to make a joke on the internet. Sometimes people say these things out of pure malice. Most of the time, though, it's someone making a really stupid, ignorant decision that they've long outgrown. You're just punishing them for something they've already changed in themselves. That's not okay to me.

@@inscrutablemungus4143 I agree in part. I have no love or support for people who pull up things that are years old IF THR PERSON HAS CHANGED. If it was something they did/said that the now Disavow or disagree with, I do not believe in that being levied against them.
Freedom of Speech dors not mean Freedom from Consequence. If you go off on a Racist rant and are then brought to face consequences that doesn't violate Free Speech. You have the right to say whatever you want, but if it is a statement deemed as against the majority moral standing you have to be prepared for backlash from "The Court of Public Opinion."
Those aren't Feminists. Those are fringe radicals. Legitimate Feminists call out creepy behavior all around. That's the thing about "Patriarchy" and/or "Toxic Masculinity" it hurts men too. Its why we're told not to cry, or look weak, or we can't be victims of assault. Hell, go look back at when Terry Crewes came forward. Legitimate Feminists applauded his bravery in speaking out, but radicals and a LOT of Men called him weak, feminine, not a real man, etc.
Every movement has radicals who are overly loud and their opposition uses to discredit them.
Feminism has "Hate all men" types
Christianity has West Borough
Atheists have Militants
Democrats have Stalinists
Republicans have Neo Nazis
We just gotta know how to tune out the fringe. With CC we have those who label legit concerns as "Radical CC taking away their rights" and those who use legit concerns as ways to claim illegitimate claims as valid.

@@raizenr2387 I'll respond to this in parts.
"I agree in part. I have no love or support for people who pull up things that are years old IF THE PERSON HAS CHANGED."
I agree entirely, except for potentially the condition that the person has changed. In my opinion, if it's a mistake from the past that the person does not currently repeat, they deserve to be forgiven. I don't want to get into the game of trying to discern people's intentions.
"Freedom of Speech dors not mean Freedom from Consequence."
Agreed, there's nothing illegal/unconstitutional about cancel culture. But, it's a very unhealthy practice for society even if it's legal. We have to learn to live with people who have different beliefs (within reasonable exceptions for violence/significant harm). If we 'cancel' people anytime they say something we don't agree with, not only will we not change society (I dunno about you, but resentment is not a great motivator), but we send these people into the arms of the radical right -- at which point they really become dangerous to ethnic/religious minorities (of which I am a member).
"Those aren't Feminists."
I agree that their actions aren't in line with the ideals of feminism, i.e that all genders should be equal. Having said that, I have not personally seen their claims of being feminist go unchecked. For all the other groups (maybe except Republicans) you listed, there is a significant amount of pushback against the fringe elements. I'm an atheist, but think the 'new atheists' are just bullies and assholes. I have Christian friends who wouldn't hesitate to denounce the WBC. Likewise, I vote Democrat (and am somewhat receptive to Bernie's ideas) but some of the Commie ideas are just stupid. I think feminists denouncing the cancel culture types should be as vocal as their opposition to the TERFs.
