Sailing written by Christopher Cross

Well, it's not far down to paradise, at least it's not for me
And if the wind is right you can sail away and find tranquility
Oh, the canvas can do miracles, just you wait and see.
Believe me.
It's not far to never-never land, no reason to pretend
And if the wind is right you can find the joy of innocence again
Oh, the canvas can do miracles, just you wait and see.
Believe me.
Sailing takes me away to where I've always heard it could be
Just a dream and the wind to carry me
And soon I will be free
Fantasy, it gets the best of me
When I'm sailing
All caught up in the reverie, every word is a symphony
Won't you believe me?
Sailing takes me away to where I've always heard it could be
Just a dream and the wind to carry me
And soon I will be free
Well it's not far back to sanity, at least it's not for me
And if the wind is right you can sail away and find serenity
Oh, the canvas can do miracles, just you wait and see.
Believe me.
Sailing takes me away to where I've always heard it could be

Just a dream and the wind to carry me
And soon I will be free

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Christopher Cross’s song “Sailing” speak to the idea of finding peace and freedom through the act of sailing. The opening lines, “Well, it's not far down to paradise, at least it's not for me / And if the wind is right you can sail away and find tranquility,” suggest that the singer believes that paradise may not be as far away as we think. It is within reach if we have the right attitude and are open to the possibility of finding it.

The lyrics go on to describe the power of sailing to bring about a sense of joy and innocence. “And if the wind is right you can find the joy of innocence again / Oh, the canvas can do miracles, just you wait and see / Believe me.” The canvas here refers to the sails of the boat, which are being controlled by the wind. This is a vivid metaphor for the idea that we can find joy and wonder in the world when we are open to it and allow ourselves to be carried along.

The chorus of the song is a refrain that speaks to the power of sailing to lift us out of our everyday lives and into a world of fantasy and possibility. “Sailing takes me away to where I've always heard it could be / Just a dream and the wind to carry me / And soon I will be free.” The use of the word “free” suggests that there is a sense of liberation to be found in sailing, and that it offers us an escape from the pressures and stresses of our daily lives.

only thing stronger than his will to live is his will not to admit he was wasted 😂

If he was wasted and inebriated, HOW was he able to survive in the water for many hours??

@susan7204

@@user-jh8uf4u666When you drink alcohol, it warms you up. Like in the Titanic. The ones that drank a lot were the ones that lived because their bodies were warmer. 😄

You have to be ripped off your ass to fall off a ship.

My thoughts exactly. He was probably intoxicated. I live on the coast which is surrounded by high, treacherous limestone cliffs. A lot of young people have fallen from these cliffs. Apart from the poor unfortunate suicide victims who have driven off in their cars, almost in all cases they were intoxicated.

He is lying, he was drunk as a motherfucker
