After their initial formation as a four-piece in July 2013, they gained a fifth member in August of that year, performing at the SHIBUYA-AX "P Festival".

Their image is that of Shibuya Maid Café hostesses; the idea came from founding member Miku (guitars/vocals) who had previously worked in a maid cafe.

Since their formation, BAND-MAID has continued to perform live at various venues around the Tokyo area. The group released their debut album "MAID IN JAPAN" in January 2014; in August of that year they released the Maxi Single 愛と情熱のマタドール ("Matador of Love and Passion"), and in December 2015 they released their sophomore album "New Beginning".

BAND MAID is a marvellous band from Japan. They have perfect synchronization and harmony when they play music.
Saiki and Miku complement and fit perfectly as voices.
Saiki sings... direct from the lungs ... has unique abilities ... and range in her voice. She is fantastic .
Miku , successfully gives color to the vocals of the group with her voice , playing excellent rhythm guitar and ... she is the soul of the band.
Kanami plays the guitar and her whole body is involved in this playing. She really enjoys it with her mind ...her body...and her soul. She is one of the best guitarist that I have ever seen .
Akane enchants us when she plays drums. Each of its limbs (arms and legs) has a separate role ... as if they were 4 different people in one body, with one mind.
Misa ... she is a pleasant and timid giant who... when she holds the bass in her hands ...she is transformed to a hurricane and is unrestrained. A hurricane that sweeps away everything in its path.
All 5 girls work together as one body ... as one mind ... giving us wonderful songs.
They have the talent .... they have the skills ... they are so cute and dynamic .... they have excellent communication with their audience .....
What else to ask for !!!!!!
I hope ... BAND MAID will continue to exist ... for many, many more years
Because they have created a unique sound ... with character ... and personality.
Their own personality.

I'm an old metalhead myself.
Grew up worshipping Black Sabbath, and by the time I was a teenager the whole thrash/death metal/black metal/doom/ grind and horrorcore scenes had exploded.
I live in New York City, so I've had the privilege of seeing pretty much every band I wanna see live. Deep Purple was probably the band that surprised me most when I saw them live. They were SO GOOD.
Purple lasers shooting everywhere when they did 'Perfect Strangers,' and I was tripping balls on mushrooms...
Later that week I went and purchased a handful of Deep Purple records.

The 2 bands I've seen many, many times are Megadeth and Slayer. Both bands are so good live that any time they came around I would go see them. I've seen both bands in stadiums and I've seen them in tiny venues, and every time it was awesome.

It's been so long since there's been a band that I'm like, 'ohmygawd I've GOTTA see these guys (or gals) live!' that I'd forgotten what it feels like.
Die Antwoord and BabyMetal were the last 2 bands to give me that feeling, and I scratched both those itches.
BabyMetal was amazing at the Sony Theatre in Times Square, for the record! Their band is just amazing and everyone got a solo. The 2 guitarists solo'd side by side, trading licks and just burning the stage down.
Like a lotta folks, I came here thanks to BabyMetal, and, well.......

BAND-MAID がハードロックと認識される原動力は、やはり茜のドラムスキルとMisa の drive の効いた５弦べースによるリズム隊の重低音の音圧にあると思い知らされる

It's funny to see people demeaning this band, a band that not only has earned the respect of the likes of Jimmy Page, Tony Visconti, Herman Li, and Justin Hawkins, but also plays rock and metal festivals all over the world, like Knotfest and Aftershock. Moreover, I find it hard to believe we still live in a world where people think women can't play instruments, but based on a lot these comments I guess we do. I didn't think my respect for the members of Band-Maid could be any higher, but after reading what some people have said, I'm even more impressed with what they've accomplished in the face of so much dismissive ignorance.

I found this band at tuesday last week and i am addicted now... They deserve SO MUCH more fans!
I can´t believe they are not selling millions and touring all over the world in HUGE halls or stadiums.
It sounds strange, but i rarely listened to rockmusic or metal for a long while, we are speaking about a DECADE. I heard Drum n Bass f.e., i am listening to every kind of music, but this got me back into rock again. They are so good, so talented, it´s literally rocking! Old punk rock fan, jazz fan, underbelly country and folk fan here and I have to agree. This band is so good it attracts die-hard fans who are into all genres of music. I've seen Deep Purple live and as brilliant as they were I like these girls even more.

Yeah...Same...Rock isn't dead in America..There is still great bands out there making damn good music,Pretty Reckless, Halestorm,etc..Then you jave these Japanese beauties, Band-Maid, and Baby Metal..So yeah rock isn't dead, it's just not lamestream anymore.....

So, I got hooked on this band recently and decided to watch a full live concert. It was better than all the studio versions. Singer has a powerful voice. The start of the concert had like zero breaks in between songs and she didn't show any strain. Every member was tight with their performance. The drummer was constantly in Nick Menza on cocaine phase the entire show. Seriously, one of the best live shows I have ever seen. Fucking love this band.

Powerful as all hell. This is up there with the best jazz, prog, and classical in terms of its complexity. I dunno what's going on in Kanami's head but it's a very different way of writing rock songs, and I like it. Like Hendrix and a few others before her she's creating her own sound.

Just finished watching Bocchi the Rock a couple of weeks ago on Netflix and I was pleasantly surprised that the manga had a version of the part where Mincho is on top of the table playing guitar. In the manga it was Bocchi in the place of Mincho with her other band mates mimicking the other members poses. Cool!!!
