In 2000, Adrien Gallo, Karim Réveillé and Raphaël Delorme, childhood friends, formed the band "Hangover" with songs exclusively in English. Some years later, Raphaël left the band at the moment when they were signing their first contract. The new lineup found a new guitarist, Félix Hemmen, who enjoyed their music. In 2007, the bassist Bérald Crambes joined the band.
The band took the name BB Brunes, inspired by the name of the song "Initials BB" by Serge Gainsbourg and by Paris's boulevard Brune, where the band then did their rehearsals. The band's musical influences are punk and rock groups from the 1960s and 1970s as well as current groups such as The Strokes, Amy Winehouse, The Clash, David Bowie, Ray Charles and singers like Serge Gainsbourg, Jacques Dutronc, etc. Their lyrics are mostly in French.
In 2009, the group won a Victoires de la musique in the category 'Group or artist stage revelation of the year'.
They have sold over 2 milllion albums and singles in France alone, 3.8 million in Europe.
Police déprime

Flic abattu, si j'avais su
Comme un chihuahua, suivre l'odeur
Il paraît qu'à force
On s'y habitue
Elle ne vit plus
Portée disparue
J'entends crier
Police déprime, jette ton insigne
Abimée
Lettre anonyme, sur le lieu du crime
Enfumé
Menez, menez-moi jusqu'à l'otage
Coffrez, coffrez-moi avant que je le tue
Elle ne vit plus
Portée disparue
Où étais-tu, sirène allumée
J'te vois danser
A corps perdu
Porté disparu
Où etais-tu, sirène allumée
J'te vois danser
A corps perdu
Porté disparu
Où étais-tu, sirène allumée
J'entends crier
Police déprime, jette ton insigne
Abimée
Lettre anonyme sur le lieu du crime
Enfumé
Dors juste à côté du soleil
Je pries pour qu'un jour elle s'éveille
The lyrics to BB Brunes's song "Police déprime" reflect the struggles and emotional toll experienced by police officers. The opening line, "Police déprime, jette ton insigne" ("Police, depressed, throw away your badge"), immediately sets the tone for the song, highlighting the emotional state of the singer. The chorus repeats the phrase "elle ne vit plus, portée disparue" ("she no longer lives, disappeared") which, in this case, could be interpreted as a metaphor for the officer's own sense of identity and purpose within their profession. The singer laments the physical and psychological toll of the job, with lines like "flic abattu si j'avais su" ("cop down, if I had known").
The reference to a "chihuahua" following a scent could be seen as a nod to the idea of following leads in police investigations, but also highlights the vulnerability and smallness a person can feel in a high-stress situation. The image of the "sirène allumée" ("siren lit up") suggests the idea of constant movement and urgency, yet the singer also notes that they see the siren "dancing" and "disappeared," conveying a sense of dissociation from reality. The final line, "je prie pour qu'un jour elle s'éveille" ("I pray for her to wake up one day"), could be interpreted as a hope for change or reform within the police force.
