In 2000, Adrien Gallo, Karim Réveillé and Raphaël Delorme, childhood friends, formed the band "Hangover" with songs exclusively in English. Some years later, Raphaël left the band at the moment when they were signing their first contract. The new lineup found a new guitarist, Félix Hemmen, who enjoyed their music. In 2007, the bassist Bérald Crambes joined the band.
The band took the name BB Brunes, inspired by the name of the song "Initials BB" by Serge Gainsbourg and by Paris's boulevard Brune, where the band then did their rehearsals. The band's musical influences are punk and rock groups from the 1960s and 1970s as well as current groups such as The Strokes, Amy Winehouse, The Clash, David Bowie, Ray Charles and singers like Serge Gainsbourg, Jacques Dutronc, etc. Their lyrics are mostly in French.
In 2009, the group won a Victoires de la musique in the category 'Group or artist stage revelation of the year'.

Car devant deux défoncés les gens ne savent, savent pas s'arrêter
Je me reveille en sursaut et ne pourrai jamais, jamais oublier
Que par ici les gens crevaient et par-dessus les gens crachaient
Comme en sixty-hate
Songs called rock and roll
Baby drives in the 68's
Baby drives in the sixties
Songs called rock and roll
Baby drives in the 68's
Songs called rock and roll
Baby drives in the sixties-hate's
Suck it rock and roll
But you win
you win
you win
you win
They've stolen my beautiful
They've stolen my beautiful
They've stolen my beautiful to me
Comme en 68's
Comme en sixty-hate.
The lyrics of BB Brunes's song "Sixty Eight" are deeply reflective of the band's nostalgic longing for a bygone era of rock and roll. The verses describe the pain and despair of witnessing the dark realities of society in the wake of drug addicts and impoverished individuals. The singer wishes that he wouldn't have cried in front of two drug addicts, elaborating on how people in that condition cannot be stopped - as if they are on some kind of committed mission. The song moves forward with a vivid imagery of the '60s, where the baby drives in the '68s and the songs are called rock and roll.
Moving to the chorus, BB Brunes' signature rock-driven sound radiates with energetic power that takes you back in time. The singer longs for the freedom of the 60s, where the people were unencumbered, easygoing and carefree. The lyrics describe the satisfaction of driving through the open road with your eyes closed, enjoying the simple pleasure of life. The lyrics also reflect the frustration of living in the aftermath of revolution - the broken men who have lost their shine and now remain neglected in the streets.
Overall, the song celebrates the spirit of the 60s, its carefree nature, and how it has vanished in present times, leaving only a bitter taste. The lyrics reflect an insightful commentary on society, and the state of things that would have been difficult to grasp for the disillusioned youth of that era.
