1. Blackfire is a Native American punk rock group from Flagstaff, Arizona, formed in 1989. Composed of three siblings: two brothers and a sister, their musical style is influenced by traditional Navajo Diné music and alternative rock, with political messages about government oppression and human rights.
Blackfire have toured nationally and internationally, with numerous U.S. tours (including the Warped Tour), as well as shows in Europe, Canada, Mexico and sub-Saharan Africa (for the "Festival in the Desert").
Joey Ramone recorded his last vocal session on Blackfire's full length album 'One Nation Under'. Blackfire was awarded Group of the Year for the 2005 Native American Music Awards.
Blackfire only plays all ages venues, and sometimes combines performances with their indigenous dance troupe, the Jones Benally Family. In 2012, members formed the band Sihasin.
2. Blackfire is a black/thrash metal band from Malaysia. They were probably the first extreme metal band in South East Asia. First known as Metal Ghost when they formed in 1982, they later changed their name to Blackfire in 1984.
They were also the first black metal band to write lyrics in Malay, though their songs had never been recorded until relatively recently. This was probably done in fear of upsetting religious authorities and attracting government attention. However, they were already known from their frequent performances in rock festivals and gigs around Malaysia in the 80's.
Their debut album, Lahir Dari Api, was released in 2006.
FENCE
BLACKFIRE Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
A people divide themselves
Trying not to lose hope
When you've lost everything else
A fence divides a people
Changing a way of life
I can't understand
I can't seem to justify
[Chorus:]
Why someone would build a fence
Tell me to choose a side
Take away my freedom
And expect me not to fight
Trying to stop what you haven't started
You're sleeping for someone else's dream
Trying to find the truth
It gets too hard to believe
A house cannot stand
When it's people are on their knees
It' no way to live
It's no way to be free
[Chorus:]
Stand,
Don't walk away
It's just another way
To keep us fighting amongst ourselves
The only thing holding up a wall
Are the people who don't tear it down
[Chorus:]
They're fencing in the horizons
We'll still be here tomorrow
But when you've lost your dreams
Your freedom will follow
A fence divides a people
A people divide themselves
The only thing holding up a wall
Are the people who don't tear it down
[Chorus:]
Stand,
Don't walk away
Tomorrow is another day
The song "Fence" by BLACKFIRE is a powerful political message about how fences and other barriers can divide people and change a way of life. The opening lyrics, "A fence divides a people, a people divide themselves," sets the tone for the theme of the song. The song describes the frustration and helplessness that arise when someone feels like they have lost everything, except their hope. The lyrics are supported by the steady rhythm of drums and electric guitar. The chorus of the song focuses on the idea that building a fence takes away one's freedom, and it is only natural to fight against this. When people try to stop something they never started, they are, in a sense, sleeping for someone else's dream. It's challenging to find the truth when it becomes too hard to believe.
The second half of the song emphasizes the idea of standing up for oneself and not allowing others to create a division. When people are divided, it creates conflict and allows others to manipulate and control them. The song suggests that the people are the only ones who can tear down a fence, and they should fight to maintain their freedom. Ultimately, the song suggests that people can create a better world by standing up for themselves and working together for a common cause.
