You Never Know
BLACKPINK Lyrics

It keeps bringing me down down down

Hmm
I've heard enough, I've heard enough
Of the things that I'm not

But you'll never know unless you walk in my shoes
You'll never know 엉켜버린 내 끈
'Cause everybody sees what they wanna see
It's easier to judge me than to believe

I'ma shine baby
You know they ain't got a shot on me

Sunday night I've been swallowed by my bed
I've been all over my head
Wonderin' if I gotta trying pretend

But you'll never know unless you walk in my shoes
You'll never know 엉켜버린 내 끈
'Cause everybody sees what they wanna see
It's easier to judge me than to believe

I'ma shine baby
You know they ain't got a shot on me

So I'll be okay
I'll always be waiting

But you'll never know unless you walk in my shoes
You'll never know 엉켜버린 내 끈
'Cause everybody sees what they wanna see
It's easier to judge me than to believe

I'ma shine baby
You know they ain't got a shot on me

Korean Blink here, I believe this song talks a little about Blackpink's struggles/story about the progress from being trainees to idols :) [there is also deeper meaning because some of the lyrics also show that they were aware that many hated them and think they're overated.] Through this song, they are trying to say that they are human too, and that they have worked hard to stand where they are today.

For their trainee days, they talk about it at 0:40 "As it was back then, Day after day, every single day, dancing, being left in the same place" And at 0:29 they sing, "As the world changes, I'm still yet the same, walking on this path that will lead me to my dreams that I've always dreamed of.." (basically feeling stuck as a trainee) << also my personal interpretation(?)

(In the lyrics, they sing at 3:30: "The thoughts that I have hidden away deep inside, (the hate comments they're trying to ignore) constantly comes back to hurt/bother me again, but as it goes, I'll keep on shining."

1:35 They also say "As the light gets bigger, my shadow gets longer as well, if it gets too bright, would I be able to look back?" I believe they're trying to say as they got more fame, their shadow grew longer (the shadow could be pressure, burdens, fear, expectations, thoughts of darkness) and they won't know if they would be able to make it. (This is my personal interpretation)

PS: I am sorry if my explanation sounds a bit confusing and also I am crying as I type

I really think BP wrote YNK cuz:

Jennie sang: "I remember
So I'll be okay
I want my room full of blue flowers
I'll always be waiting"

and her mom truly fills the room with blue flowers for her birthday every year! (check her latest ig post) This song is TOO personal to not be written by the pinks.

Rosé's verse: " Even if the whole world changes
I'm still the same
I dreamed of this path I walked
As it was then, as it was then
The first time I danced every day
I was left there"

u can't tell me she didn't write that when she has told us countless times how it was her first time dancing in her 14 years of existence.

Lisa: ""I don't know myself well
I'm afraid I'll find myself expecting
someone to recognize me"

the saddest people are often those who does anything in their power to make others happy... she's the one who constantly brings positivity in the group.

Jisoo: "On the day when I laughed hard
Why is the night darker?
It keeps bringing me down
Down, down"

blackpink has faced so many hate and criticism but you'll NEVER see Kim Jisoo feeling sad or even shedding a tear in front of blinks. she tries to BE STRONG for us.. she said that she only cries when she's alone..

If this doesn't scream "Written by BLACKPINK but never credited for it" then I don't know anymore.

UmmOk

Just saying, Bekuh Boom, Loren made a masterpiece with this song.

Jisoo: "I try to smile broadly" says how she's always the one staying strong, smiling broadly even when the others are down, or crying, even tho it's hard for her, she does it. It's because of her that the whole group, whole fandom stays strong. Now she is one of K-pop's ultimate visuals who was earlier called ugly and a "monkey" by her own relatives and treated as an outcast, had severe back-pain and was VERY sick during Coachella but NONE of us realised it from her performance. Jisoo made this this far based on her talent and hard work. Jisoo is one of the most genuine, humble idols in the entire industry. "Even when the world's changing, I'm still the same". Jisoo's lines mainly show how much she keeps on that happy or poker face, never breaks down no matter how hard the situation is. She's always been like that. Looking for a solution with hopes, working hard and being positive instead of falling apart. Jisoo has said many deep and inspiring lines with that goofy smile on her face. You can tell how genuine this girl is and how much she means everything she says. Jennie said Jisoo was that trainee who arrived a bit late but was determined to catch up, she kept improving and improving, which motivated the rest, still does. She's always been a pillar to the members. But she also has her weak points, weak moments, sometimes they grab her from the inside and tries to bring her down, she keeps fighting. Does what she loves to do. You'll keep shining girl, they ain't got no shot on you.

Jennie: "You never know unless you walk in my shoes...cuz everybody sees what they wanna see. It's easier to judge me than to believe," mad respect to this girl, she isn't a spoiled brat but rather someone who was raised by a single parent which she didn't even get time to spend much with, her mom's a fighter along with her, Jennie kept on going, made a path for herself by working hard. She isn't lazy but rather sick, injured who keeps on performing for the Blinks, yet those "Blinks" were the first ones to judge her, call her lazy and spoiled. Her resting bittch face is actually her happy face. She does try her best but her body doesn't co-operate, we should be worried rather than complaining. She is the most misjudged, hated, misunderstood K-pop artist ever, all sorts of words are thrown at her without knowing what she goes thru, she is actually the most mistreated. Without ever mentioning anything about her hardships or her talent, she keeps on loving and praising her members and Blinks. "I remember so I'll be okay, I wan't my room full of blue flowers. I'l always be waiting" Her mom always sends her blue flowers on her bd. Jennie has huge respect and love for her mom, this shows how much she appreciates every little thing her mom does for her. Jennie says she tries her best to not reply on someone when she's down, has always been this way, Jennie mostly uses "We" instead of "I", she's the main rapper but doesn't always get to rap, she said she chooses what's better for the group over everything, which in this case means better line distribution, so that "I'll be okay" kinda hits me in the spot. She might be a badass, savage, fierce, straightforward, but she's also someone going thru a LOT and tries her best to put up with it.

Rosé: "Even when the world's changing, I'm still the same. When I danced everyday, I remain where I was at the beginning" saying how she is no different than she was years ago. And that is actually true, humble for years. Just as she kept on trying and dancing everyday during those hard trainee days, she still does that, remembers those days. She has many insecurities she has always had to fight and she will keep on fighting them. Will remember where she came from. She's now walking on the path she always dreamt of walking on. Ver voice expresses emotions better than most other singers. "In the picture I've been painting, all the way to the torn places...I'll face myself who I didn't wanna see". Rosé is very private with her musical pieces, she's afraid of being laughed at. Her respect for music is bigger than anything. Rather than perfecting every note, she's THAT main vocal who tries to perfect the delivery of the exact emotions behind the song. She said she's like a baby trying to sing in music. She said she just wanna have a few specific people in the studio and she can make a fool of herself in there and no one would say anything, they'd accept whatever she gives. But she knows that she'll have to get over her insecurities and face that Rosie deep down. Also kinda pointing at the fact that Rosé paints as well. Her story of music is too deep for a lot of people to understand, she has storied she wants to share, but she doesn't know if they are good enough so she keeps working on it. She'll face herself, get it done, show us someday. Rosé deserves huge respect as a musician. She's always been soft, left everything in Australia, came to Korea and asked her parents to NOT tell her to get back home. She didn't wanna hear it, as she knew she'd break down that way, she knew she had to keep fighting and make a path for herself, work for what she loves to do.

Lisa: "All too easily uttered...I've heard enough, I've heard enough of the things that I'm not" Lisa usually is dragged in a lot of baseless scandals, saying she got plastic surgery, about her race etc, she said how she has to hear things that she's not. She tries so hard, has always tried hard. It's not easy going to a country with a totally different culture all alone at the age of 14/15 to train with having NO one speaking your language or anyone understanding you. She is the happy pill of Bp, even if things aren't going well, she stays active and loud to keep up the mood and to make the members happy. The members appreciate Lisa a lot for this, not like she is never tired or weak, she is, but yet she tries to keep the mood up for her members. Her rap part says how she isn't sure if she has to try to keep pretending to be that always-happy cheered up Lisa we all know. She isn't sure of how long she can keep this up, but just as everything else, she'll try her best. All that tough years was to create a path for herself, for people to get the talent in her, to recognise her as an artist, all that she wants. It's a positive feeling yet sometimes makes you feel afraid, pressured insecure. This success y'all are jealous of? Don't y'all see the huge risks and hard work behind it? "You can't fly just by looking at the ground" she didn't just become a top K-pop idol like that, she worked for it, she knows she can't look down and give up now, she gotta keep it up and fly.

This song perfectly represents the hard-ships of each members. Thanks to YG entertainment to keep our girls well. In a comfortable environment where they work on music however they want. Trainee days made them know their weak, strong points and improved their skills, teamwork, prepared them. That was just the beginning yet the toughest part. Now they work on themselves, take the pressure by themselves, work on music, and put it out.
