BOøWY Lyrics

ALL RIGHT
The lyrics of BOøWY's song "Rats" describe the fickle nature of human relationships, particularly those among friends. The first two lines of the song assert that when there is nothing happening, everything is always fine and friends can easily be confided in. However, when things go wrong, these same friends will turn their backs and pretend they don't know anything.
The next few lines allude to the fact that these superficial relationships are based on nothing but a façade. The friends only engage in light-hearted conversation and keep up appearances with each other. This is further emphasized in the lines that state that when things get tough, they will always run away and leave the singer alone to face the problem alone.
The last few lines of the song seem to reluctantly acknowledge the necessity of these kinds of relationships in order to navigate through life successfully. The singer acknowledges that it's better to live in ignorance of loneliness and use words as weapons to manipulate circumstances to their advantage. The final line suggests that being honest is the last resort when all other options have been exhausted.
Overall, the lyrics of "Rats" convey a sense of disillusionment with the superficiality of human relationships and the need to put on a façade in order to navigate through life's challenges.
