To date, Boo Seeka has accumulated over 7 million Spotify streams and dominated national airwaves with singles like ‘Oh My’, ‘Deception Bay’, ‘Fool’ and their 2015 debut single, ‘Kingdom Leader’, which peaked at #6 on the Australian iTunes Electronic chart. Boo also managed to reach #50 in Triple j’s 2015 Hottest 100 with ‘Deception Bay’ and snagged a J Award nomination for Unearthed Artist of the Year in 2015.
A combination of pulsating synth sounds that bed down layered textures of electronic bass and percussive beats. Influenced by the layerings and experimental beats of Major Lazer, the cool swagger of J-Dilla and The Seed 2.0’s Cody Chestnutt’s soulful vocal delivery. BOO SEEKA snaps up melodies and bounces them off hip-hop/R&B driven grooves and beats that vibe.
2015 saw Boo Seeka tour Australia nationally with Kim Churchill, Sticky Fingers and SAFIA. Supporting each band on their respective National Tours. Followed by 2 SOLD OUT Headline single tours of the east coast. They’ve supported the likes of DMA’s, Jarryd James, Kovacs in the EUand UKand have also showcased at The Great Escape and Liverpool Sound City.
In 2016, they sold out their own national headline Oz tour and went back to EU and the UK for their own run of shows and festivals. After that was done, they came back home to play on home soil, just in time for summer festivals, including Groovin’ The Moo, Splendour In the Grass, Southbound and Party in the Paddock. Boo Seeka, being the hardest touring bands in Oz at the moment, also managing to squeeze in a 3 month long tour with Cherub and Frenship in October - November of 2016.
Boo Seeka continue to work on their first album - on and off the road. Working with producer and long time collaborator, Ian Pritchett (Bootleg Rascal & Lyall Moloney). Their most recent single, ‘Does This Last’, navigates through a bed of spacey synth and string layers. Building on their eclectic soul-tronic sounds. The single has been placed on high rotation on Triple J and have been featured on a few Spotify AU/NZ playlists (including 5 weeks on the Indie Mixtape playlist). It’s the first taste of their first album, due for release August 2017 (through Sureshaker & Warner Music Australia).

I still hope to find the others sleeping in directions so faith
Mellow yellow lines in the Sun
On the low, we watched them grow and I the open curt
Searching for the highest lilies, daisies or tulip between
But I won't get this rainbow life or future leave
And I fool the rainbow life and be carefully
I won't pay to yourself this hard away if you're away home
Come and pay to yourself this mother with you away home
Find the stone to make glass shatter
Memories can sometimes be cold
Woke and past the future, mirror, stories of the Earth to be told
When I'm living a lie
But I won't get this rainbow life or future leave
And I fool the rainbow life and be carefully
I won't pay to yourself this hard away if you're away home
Come and pay to yourself this mother with you away home
I'm gonna get the rain to stop
I'm gonna get the rain to stop
I'm gonna get the rain to stop
I'm gonna get the rain to stop
The lyrics of Boo Seeka’s song “Argo Misty” are cryptic and open to interpretation. The song seems to be about a person searching for direction and purpose in life, represented by the line “in my head a mystery calling is hopping to find a new way”. The use of the phrase “mystery calling” suggests a sense of urgency and desperation to this search. The person is still stuck in the past and in the hopes of finding others moving forward with full faith towards their goals, indicated by the lines “I still hope to find the others sleeping in directions so faith”. The lyrics then mention “mellow yellow lines in the Sun” potentially describing the passage of time or the journey of life.
The person then talks about searching for beauty and meaning in life, represented by flowers, but acknowledging that they will not get to experience a carefree, rainbow life or achieve everything they hope to in the future. The lyrics invoke the idea of being careful, potentially signifying the challenges and pitfalls of chasing dreams. The person recognizes that memories can be cold sometimes and that in order to move forward they need to come to terms with the past while facing the future unflinchingly. The song seems to end on a hopeful note with the person declaring their intention to stop the rain and perhaps indicating that they will be taking control of their lives.

I'm frankly gobsmacked by the paradox that is Boo Seeka. The emotive vocals, vivid lyrics, cool beats driving catchy and memorable compositions, high production values and understated but hip, complementary videos make each track feel like finding a rare gem. These boys are clearly so affable and real that connection with whatever audience is fortunate enough to find them is a given. It's nearly Christmas 2020 and in my half century of life I've been fortunate to experience musical wonders ranging from Depeche Modes Devotional tour to Jan Blomquist's Burning Man and everything in between. And yet, I have every possible notification on every operating system on all my useless devices set to fire alarm level in the event Boo Seeka announce a live date in Queensland.....the paradox for me is summed up by this video...only 9,749 views at time of writing!
I repeat: Gobsmacked. Rare gem.
Oh and boys, please come to Brisbane.
