As of August 2017, all the original members had left the group. They officially changed their name from RaNia to "BP RaNia" for their Start A Fire comeback.RaNia was first announced to debut in November 2010 as a eight-member group; however Sarah left the group before their actual debut. Other pre-debut members were Park Sori and Data Daranchas. The group debuted six months later in April 2011 with the digital single "Teddy Riley, The First Expansion In Asia". The group was also expected to debut in America with an English version of the digital single lead track (also included on the Korean release), but this was later cancelled.
Only a few days after their debut a new member was introduced, YiJo. She was a last-minute addition to the group after Sarah left the group, hence she did not promote the single with the group (as she needed more practice). However, she appeared briefly in their debut music video and on the early promotional pictures of RaNia. YiJo left the group soon afterwards.
After the release of their debut single music video and their first live performances, a controversy arose surrounding the sexually suggestive choreography and outfits. Subsequently, the group changed the choreography and the member's outfits for their performances in order to not be banned from TV broadcasts.
In response of the controversy Teddy Riley uploaded a new version of the music video on PMGASIA official YouTube Channel titled "Dr Feel Good (Too Hot For Netizens)", although he eventually parted ways with the group in 2011, saying he could no longer work with DR Music.
The group signed with a Spanish label, INGENIOmedia for a Spanish advancement. When asked whether Riko would be taking part in the upcoming comeback, INGENIOMedia announced that Riko had left the group. However, they then released a clarification statement saying that there had been a communication error and that DR Music would have to release a statement about Riko's status in the group. No such clarification was ever made, but fans have noted that Riko has not appeared with the group for a while, and interpreted this to mean she has left.
INGENIOMedia cut ties with RaNia soon afterwards following a controversial event in which they purposefully leaked RaNia's comeback track "Acceleration" to a fan, forcing DR Music to do damage control and start work on a new single. INGENIOMedia then informed DR Music that the comeback was "taking too long", and said they were no longer willing to work with them.
In late fall of 2014, fans became worried when they realized that Yina hadn't appeared with the group since earlier that summer (July) and all the other members unfollowed her on social media. No information has come forwards regarding her position in the group, but fans speculate that she has left as well. At the same time as Yina's supposed departure, the group added a new member, Sharon Park.
In January of 2015, Jooyi stopped attending live performances and was seemingly replaced by a new member, Hyeme. When asked about the change, DR Music stated that Jooyi was simply on hiatus and that Hyeme was a trainee. Later that year both Jooyi and Riko released solo music.
In April of 2015 it was revealed that Sharon had left RaNia and Hyeme had become a member. In July 2015, the group performed at an event after months of hiatus and revealed a new member Seulji. In October 2015, the group announced the release of their third mini-album Demonstrate after over two years of hiatus. A sixth member, Alexandra was announced the day before their debut, becoming the first African-American member of a Korean girl group. On May 26, 2016 it was announced that the last original members Di, T-ae, and Xia had left the group and company. The group's comeback was postponed until August. It was also revealed that members Alexandra and Hye Me would be forming a sub-unit.
On 26 June 2016, RaNia performed at an event in China with 3 new members: Ji An, Crystal, & Ji Eun, a former member of LPG all trainees who could potentially join the group. Ji An and Crystal were not added to the final lineup.
On December 22, a teaser was dropped for the group's upcoming comeback. It was revealed that there were two new members along with the return of former member Saem (now Yina). They also underwent a name change from RaNia to BP RaNia, with BP standing for "Black Pearl".
Yina left the group in June 2017 for the second time.
Soon afterwards it was announced that Alex had left the group. DR Music broke the news via Twitter, writing "Our staff [and] the artists have reached an agreement that Alexandra is no longer a member of BP Rania. We have gone through quite many conversations & meetings and agreed to promote with 5 members. This decision is not due to rumors such as racism etc.".
On September 13, it was announced that the group would be making a comeback with "Breathe Heavy" from their Refresh 7th EP.
In January 2018, after fans noticed that Ttabo had missed several appearances with the group, DR Music issued a statement stating she was filming a movie in China. On May 31, DR Music announced the departure of Yumin from the group due to her having "recently been faced with circumstances that make it increasingly hard for her to follow the extremely demanding team schedule". It was also announced that the group would be having a comeback in June and releasing a "Best Of" album in August, but neither event occurred. Soon afterwards it was announced that Yumin and former Topp Dogg member P-Goon had married and were expecting a child. The pair has since divorced.
On June 28, it was announced that a new member named Namfon had joined the group, making her the group's second Thai member. She made her first appearance on Rania's Malaysia tour.
On November 7, when asked via SNS by fans if she was still a member, Ttabo stated that she was an “ex-celebrity”. Shortly afterwards, fans noticed that every remaining member of the group had removed "Rania" from their social media accounts and that the company had unfollowed some of the members, leading to rumors that DR Music as a company had gone bankrupt and defunct and the group had unofficially disbanded.
On August 18, 2019, Rania announced via their official Instagram account that they would be performing in Romania from September 4–5 with three new members, although the names and faces of the three weren't yet announced. Fans began speculating that this meant Zi.U and Jieun had left the group. On August 28, the group's official YouTube account uploaded a video promoting their Romanian performance as well as revealing the three new members as Seunghyun, Larissa, and ex-Stellar member Youngheun, as well as confirming the departures of Jieun, Zi.U and Ttabo.
On January 25, 2020, Namfon was announced to have left the group.
On June 26, 2020, Hyeme announced through DR Music's social media pages that the members of Rania at that time with the exception of Seunghyun would rebrand as B.S, which was later changed to Blackswan, with two new members; Judy and Fatou.
The group has been performing under the name "Black Swan" ever since.

If they really want Alex to be a member then train her like a member, dress her like a member, teach her to speak and sing in korean... And you're telling me she's the leader??? Don't make me laugh. Why did Alex even agree to such an arrangement? She's not treated like a member, she's treated like a glorified accessory. Putting her in the group like this doesn't look legitimate, it just looks like a cry for attention.

I think alex should just go her separate ways and go to her agency in America and let rania disband. if we as black people are gonna have someone represent us in kpop, we need a girl in a better label who auditions and trains and speaks korean. no hate on alex. they SHOULD have treated her more fairly, but rania was already famous and really really good with the original members when jooyi left shit went and hit the fan. before this BP bullshit. she was the sole pillar of rania. and here they made alex take that heavy burden. jooyi was the korean xtina, and the only one who was interesting back then, they never showed her either. its the same thing with alex. this is my opinion. and now jooyi is solo and she has her name stolen by some girl group (cosmic girl jooyi)
