The group initially formed as teenagers under Big Hit Entertainment and released their debut single album, 2 Cool 4 Skool (2013). Subsequent work such as their first U.S. Billboard 200 entries The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Part 2 (2015), The Most Beautiful Moment in Life: Young Forever (2016), and Wings (2016) helped establish BTS' reputation as a socially conscious group. Wings became BTS' first album to sell one million copies in South Korea. By 2017, BTS crossed into the international music market, leading the Korean Wave into the United States and breaking numerous sales records, becoming the first Korean group to receive a certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) with their single "Mic Drop". The band is the first Korean act to top the U.S. Billboard 200 with their studio album Love Yourself: Tear (2018) and have since hit the top of the U.S. charts with their albums Love Yourself: Answer (2018) and Map of the Soul: Persona (2019), making BTS the first group since The Beatles to earn three number one albums in less than a year, and the fastest to earn three number one albums since The Monkees in 1967. Love Yourself: Answer also broke South Korea's Gaon Album Chart's all-time monthly record previously set by Love Yourself: Tear and became the first Korean album certified Gold in the United States.
According to Gaon Music Chart, BTS has sold fifteen million albums domestically and is the best-selling artist to debut in the 2010s. They hold the best-selling album in Korean history with Map of the Soul: Persona. BTS were the second best-selling artists of 2018 worldwide according to the IFPI's Global Artist Chart, as well as the only non-English speaking artist to enter the chart. The group has won Top Social Artist three years in a row and Top Duo/Group at the 26th Billboard Music Awards. Featured on Time's international cover as "Next Generation Leaders", BTS has appeared in the magazine's 25 most influential people on the internet (2017–2019) and Time's 100 most influential people in the world (2019), with the outlet giving them the nickname 'Princes of Pop'. Forbes Korea named BTS the most influential celebrities of Korea in 2018, and BTS ranked 43rd in the Forbes Celebrity 100 (2019) as one of the world's top-earning celebrities. During their 2019 Love Yourself World Tour, BTS became the first Asian artist ever to headline and sell out Wembley Stadium and broke the record for the single highest-grossing engagement in Rose Bowl Stadium history. BTS are worth more than $4.65 billion to South Korea's economy each year, attracting one in every 13 foreign tourists that visit the country, and are cited as one of the key acts boosting global music sales to $19 billion in 2018, a figure not seen since 2006 after digital purchases gained momentum.
Following the establishment of their Love Myself anti-violence campaign in partnership with UNICEF, BTS addressed the United Nations 73rd General Assembly and became the youngest ever recipients of the Order of Cultural Merit from the President of South Korea due to their contributions in spreading Korean culture and language.

The lyrics to BTS's song Intro: Persona are about personal identity and self-discovery. The rapper RM begins with the question of who he truly is, a question he has been asking himself his whole life. He acknowledges that there may never be a definitive answer to this question. RM then talks about how he feels right now and how he is still grappling with his personal identity. He notes that others will judge him and label him, but he's not sure if those labels accurately describe him. He muses on the fact that he is now more famous but he doesn't know if he is really any closer to finding out who he is.
The second verse continues with RM reflecting on how far he has come and how he has changed, but also acknowledging the pressure that fame brings. He is constantly being judged, praised, and critiqued by others, and he feels like there are so many people telling him what to do and how to be. Despite this, RM knows that he wants to be true to himself and his own vision, even if it means being hypocritical or unpopular at times.
Overall, the lyrics of Intro: Persona are a meditation on personal identity and the ways in which it can be both elusive and constantly shifting. RM is introspective and honest about his struggles to figure out who he is, while also recognizing that he has a responsibility to his fans and to himself to remain true to his core beliefs and values.

@hertears14
The beginning song remix is from Intro: Skool Luv Affair when RM’s part changes the beat.
This is referring back to RM’s rap in that song, which is talking about BTS’s true dreams, sound, and PERSONA
The old beat is remixed in this new intro, which I think symbolizes how BTS have evolved over the years, but wish to be connected to their roots
They have evolved, and yet they are still the same artists down to their roots
Y’all theorists be quaking with the new theories popping up
@99txgh
RM posted this on the fancafe when persona got released (translation by peachboy on twitter and will link below)
Everyone..
Did you enjoy seeing Persona?
I wonder if you remember the robe was shown on Vapp.
Yes, that robe is the one I was saving up for this day
Kekeke
When I first received the track it was just a simple guitar riff with an old track sample that has been mixed...so filling it up with rap was really not easy for me, which is why I kept rewriting what had been rewritten, and repeat again. It was so hard. After erasing and recording, eventually I ended up recording it 5 more times, but most of the lyrics were finished while I was having a beer and I ended up going with the first guide while yelling.
The first version is where I scribbled things down without any thoughts, I couldn't beat it. Those guys who composes or plan things, I feel like you guys would be able to relate kekeke
I debated on if I should put in a lot of the hook and go with the regular way, but then I started to miss the old way where I wrote with no hesitation. So except for the end, I ended up filling the whole thing with rap. Right now it's awesome. But I was worried that the hook might be boring, so after I left work, I recorded again and when I opened my eyes (after sleeping) ahh something seemed missing!! I recorded again about 5 times and at the end (ended up going) with the first version..
Yes
Anyways this album, again like this album, it's a new series. I poured my soul into these new songs. Right before the start of the last song I was totally burned out and I lost all desire to create. Please someone write it for me instead..of course I was like that but rewrote it diligently again. Kekeke
I will tell you more when the album comes out, and please look forward to the new series and songs. I really hope you guys will like it.
