Spring Day
BTS Lyrics
Friend
You know it all
You're my best friend

It’s April 16th 2020, the day that the Sewol ferry tragedy occurred that killed all of those students. The incident that this song was written for. But today is also my 21st birthday. When I found out what this song was actually about I also found that it was about the loss of not only individuals but also youth, and the past, and being that I’m turning 21, it resonates strongly right now, especially since it’s been giving me slight anxiety and feeling like a failure going into adulthood.
Yet, if I’m going to be honest, this last year was the worst in my life. It was the year my 16 year old brother tried and almost killed himself 4 times. Year my parents were extremely depressed. Year my dad found out he had cancer, JUST after my mom finally got over hers. Year my neighbor, great grandma, cat and friend were killed. Year my best friend decided to betray me, ending our friendship. The year I decided to stay home and do college online because of all of this. Year my mental stability deteriorated. And it was the year the coronavirus occurred.
In the end, I ultimately got over a lot of this. Grew stronger, and was able to pick myself up. It was truly the year I grew up. But I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t hard. I’ve really been holding out for Spring.
It feels like it’s been a long winter and I’ve been waiting so long for a spring day. I hope that in spite of everything, this can mark the beginning of Spring. Not even for just myself, but everyone.
It’s been weird, right? The world has been crazy. But I’m going to believe that in spite of this, we will be stronger. I’m sure no one will read this and will ignore because this post is so long, but this song means so much to me, and it’s my birthday so I have rights!!! Not really, but to anyone who does, let’s all hope that Spring can still arise through this long harsh winter.
