We Could Be Heroes
BWO Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Take me to the roads where I used to drive
Away from small town schemes
Cobblestones on bumpy roads
To the life on silver screens
Memories from a life escaping
When the dark is closing in
After storms have passed I see at last
The magic can begin

There I see the guiding light
The star you’re born to be
I realize your love has set me free

We could be heroes
We could be angels in the sky
From the rainbow’s end to heaven sent
We spread our wings and fly
We could be heroes
We could be lovers you and I
And when angels fall and curtains call
We climb the mountains high
We could be heroes

Take me to the streets where I used to walk
The dreams I sacrificed
Sticks and stones when angels talked
Whispering sweet advice
Every night I sleep without you
Every breath you take away
Becomes a foolish game a crying shame
Leading me astray

Then I see the guiding light
The star you’re born to be
I realize your love has set me free

We could be heroes
We could be angels in the sky
From the rainbow’s end to heaven sent
We spread our wings and fly
We could be heroes
We could be lovers you and I
And when angels fall and curtains call
We climb the mountains high
We could be heroes

Na na na we could be heroes
Na na na we could be heroes
Na na na we could be heroes

Na na na na na na
We could be heroes

Overall Meaning

The opening lines of "We Could Be Heroes" by BWO sets the scene for the song, in which the persona is taken to the roads and the streets where they used to drive and walk respectively, trying to escape small town schemes and living their dreams on silver screens. This verse talks about the memories of a life escaping, and how after the storm has passed, they finally see the magic and the guiding light that is the persona's love. The chorus of the song builds on this sentiment, with the persona acknowledging that they could be heroes, or angels in the sky, if they only carried their dreams to fruition, climbing mountains high and spreading their wings to fly.

The second verse takes the persona back to the streets they used to walk on, reminiscing on the dreams they sacrificed for the sake of others, and how the absence of the person they love leads them astray as they play a foolish game. The guiding light of their love sets them free, and they realize they could be everything they dreamed themselves to be, from heroes to lovers climbing mountains high. This verse and the following chorus hence carry the theme of hope and perseverance, encouraging the listener to hold on to their dreams and love to achieve great heights, becoming heroes in their own right.

What a beautiful song...I've never heard it before but just came across your video and thankful I did :)! Thank You and Great Job on the video! Keep up the great work & Thanks Again!!! Who sings this song??? Take Care

@Sorken.1994

Yuk.
I don't feel good hearing this song.
It hurts me.
Especially the music video, as it contains two scenes where the singer: Martin Rolinski pretends to be hit (killed) by a car.

The main reason I feel bad about this song is because my youngest sister is pretty mean to me about this music group.
She prefers that the singer: Martin Rolinski would be hit (killed) for real.

She usually laughs at things that lead to death, (for example someone being run over).
I don't like her saying that to me.

Now do you understand why I don't feel good when I hear this song?

@tngrrl73

It's good, just wish all the heroes had face time. Guess we need a really long song! LOL. Enjoyed it just the same!

@ElizabethWinchester

@LaserCrusader

"The Wallflowers - Heroes" is a better song for this music video. Hell to be honest when I first read the title of this song I thought it was from the band The Wallflowers.
