In the early Seventies, the band switched to hard rock and had its first successes, including a brace of Top 40 hits. After original singer Veerman left and drummer Keizer took his place behind the microphone, the band made a musical U-turn and opted for commercial radio pop, adding female co-vocalist Annie Schilder and laying the foundation for their status as the most popular Dutch band ever (in terms of hit singles and albums). BZN has had over 50 hits in the Dutch hit parade to date.
BZN's claim to fame started with the song "Mon Amour" (1976), which held the #1 hit parade ranking for over 5 weeks. Outside of the Netherlands the band has had some success as well, amongst which several hits in South Africa (such as "Yeppa" in 1990) and minor successes with their French-language songs in Canada.
Through the years there have been many lineup changes, the most important of which have been the departure of Schilder in 1984 (replaced by Carola Smit) and in 1988 of the brothers Cees and Thomas Tol (keyboards), who until then had been responsible for most of the music and lyrics. The band remained nevertheless successful, making their last major change in strategy when they decided to write in Dutch instead of English as of 2003.
BZN are also responsible for the initial success of singer Jan Smit (singer), who was discovered by BZN at the age of 10 and went on to have pop and schlager successes in The Netherlands, Germany and Belgium.
On February 15 2006, BZN announced they would do one final tour and then call it quits. This goodbye tour is scheduled to last until June 2007.

(Th. Tol/J. Tuijp/C. Tol)
Now I'm sitting here, think of yesterday
Have I drunk too much in that little café
Yes you have my friend, but you didn't understand
Now I remember again how it went, I blame it on my friend
Can I have a beer, please give me a drop
No you can't my friend, even you should understand
I like to sing and to dance, take a chance, and be with me tonight
Then we'll sing da da da da da da da
Da da da da da da da
Da da da da da da da
Da da da da da da da *hick*
So let us have a drink, though we haven't slept a wink
We don't even have to think it all over
'Cause tomorrow is another day (tomorrow is another day)
And it don't matter me at all
Whether right or wrong, we will have it all
So let us have a drink, though we haven't slept a wink
We don't even have to think it all over
'Cause tomorrow is another day (tomorrow is another day)
And it don't matter me at all
Whether right or wrong, we will have it all
And it don't matter me at all
So you'd better listen to my advice
Have a glass of wine and make it feel nice
Come and let's forget, all the trouble that we had
I like to sing and dance, take a chance, and be with me tonight
Then we'll sing da da da da da da da
Da da da da da da da
Da da da da da da da
Da da da da da da da *hick*
So let us have a drink, though we haven't slept a wink
We don't even have to think it all over
'Cause tomorrow is another day (tomorrow is another day)
And it don't matter me at all
Whether right or wrong, we will have it all
So let us have a drink, though we haven't slept a wink
We don't even have to think it all over
'Cause tomorrow is another day (tomorrow is another day)
And it don't matter me at all
Whether right or wrong, we will have it all
And it don't matter me at all
So let us have a drink
So let us have a drink
So let us have a drink, ah-ha
The lyrics to BZN's song "Only A Boozer" paint a picture of someone who spends their days drinking and singing in a little café. The singer, who is likely the one doing the heavy drinking, remembers how he stumbled through the previous night with the help of his friend. Despite the fact that he knows he's been drinking too much, he can't help but crave another drop. He proposes that they forget all of their troubles and sing together, completely disregarding the consequences of their actions.
The chorus of the song makes it clear that the singer's focus is entirely on the present moment, with no thought given to tomorrow. He acknowledges that they haven't slept, yet that doesn't matter. He's positive that he and his friend will have it all, regardless of whether they're doing the right thing or not.
Overall, "Only A Boozer" is a cautionary tale against overindulging in alcohol and living solely for the moment. It emphasizes that while it may feel good to forget your problems in the present, it can ultimately lead to regret and negative consequences.
