Baby Animals reformed in 2007 and released an acoustic CD of their hits entitled "Il Grande Silenzio" on January 19th 2008, as part of the Liberation Blue Acoustic Series. January 21st 2008 saw Liberation Records re-release their previous two albums ("Baby Animals" and "Shaved and Dangerous" remastered) as a 2 CD set, albeit missing the track "Big Time Friends". The band also toured Australia in January 2008 and appeared live on the Australian breakfast TV program "Sunrise" on January 22nd 2008.
On January 12th 2009 Baby Animals announced another Australian tour, playing 14 shows across Adelaide, Melbourne, Wollongong, Sydney, Sunshine Coast, Brisbane and the Gold Coast during April 2009. Frank Celenza resigned from the band only to reinstate himself two days later, and due to this and other internal conflicts DeMarchi & Leslie decided to continue the band with two hand-picked Sydney musicians, Matt Cornell (Bass/ Vocals) and Mick Skelton (Drums).
DeMarchi moved back home to Australia with children Bebe and Lorenzo in 2010 and the plan was for her husband, Bettencourt, to follow soon afterwards. The move never happened with Bettencourt sending an email saying the marriage was over. The breakup gave rise to the song E-Mail which features on the 3rd album This Is Not The End that was released in 2013.
The Baby Animals lineup behind that 3rd album now boasted a new line-up of Suze DeMarchi (Vocals/Guitar), Dave Leslie (Guitar/Vocals), Dario Bortolin (Bass/Vocals) and Mick Skelton (Drums). The album was a fast turnaround. After an intensive writing period, the band entered a two-week pre-production period. The recording stage at Sydney’s Blackfoot Studio was also relatively quick. This Is Not the End was cut in three weeks, and mixed-down in another two. The album was followed by an intense number of tour dates.
Baby Animals celebrated the 25th anniversary of the self-titled album in May 2016 with a concert in Melbourne and Sydney that featured both the current and original line-ups. The current line-up played songs off of the 2nd and 3rd albums, whilst the original lineup powered through end-to-end set of the self-titled album.
Lights Out at Eleven

How can you love when all hope has expired
You don't know what you're missing
I hope you know that you're missed
(Chorus)
He can't confide in suicide
He can't pretend it's a justified end
Look for the spirit by your side
How could you leave when the fun was just starting
When all of us left were the ones you were loving
You don't know what you're missing
I hope you know that you're missed
(Repeat Chorus)
You my friend
Ooh my friend
A moment's problem brings a lifeless solution
And then he turned the lights out at eleven
You don't know what you're missing
I hope you know that you're missed
(Repeat Chorus x2)
You my friend
Ooh my friend
In the song "Lights Out at Eleven," Baby Animals sing about the struggle of dealing with depression and suicidal thoughts. The opening lines "How can you rest when you're not tired / How can you love when all hope has expired" express the feeling of hopelessness and exhaustion that often comes with depression. The lyrics go on to talk about the impact of suicide on loved ones and the importance of seeking help rather than choosing to end one's life.
The chorus provides a message of hope and encouragement, urging the listener to "look for the spirit by your side" and reminding them that they are not alone. The line "He can't confide in suicide / He can't pretend it's a justified end" highlights the danger of thinking that suicide is a solution, when in reality it only causes pain and sorrow for those left behind.
The final verse delivers a powerful message about the finality of suicide and the tragic loss of life that results from it. The line "A moment's problem brings a lifeless solution / And then he turned the lights out at eleven" is a poignant reminder of the permanent nature of suicide and the importance of seeking help before it's too late.

Hadn't heard this tune for 25 years after listening to a mate play the cassette while cruising around the South Coast of NSW on a surf trip. Good tune.

These guys were such a great act. Saw them live at the Palace in Melbourne in '93 or '94. Saw them "live" on "Hey, Hey it's Saturday" when I was working at 9 in the 90s. Got chatting to them before they went on and they were a pretty chilled crew. Wore out 2 CDs. I couldn't get enough of them.

This is one of the best (sort of) ballads I've ever heard. Heavy subject matter obviously, but really well handled. Everything about it is great, really. Quality vocal, superb guitar playing (soloing and chord selection) and some nice odd time in there too.

Indeed.
I bought this record 20 years ago or so, I love it all, but this song in particular still fascinates me every time.

The moment where the song builds then stops at 4.06 then restarts is simply devastating in its emotional power.
